I know I'm late to the party with this, but as of today I officially love Vonda Shepard.
I picked up one of her CDs for four bucks at a pawnshop in Massachusets about a month ago, and didn't get aroudn to listening to it until today.

First, the woman does a respectful cover of my very favorite Temptations song (yes, I'm old), "Ask the Lonely."

Then, she does a nice cover of "Walk Away, Renee," one of the five or six best songs ever written. Again, tasteful and faithful.

And to top it off, a compelling cover (and the first cover I'd ever heard) of "I Only Want to Be with You) that would have made Miss Dusty Springfield damn proud.

Christ, if I'd known how good Ms Shepard is, I'd have watched that TV show more than twice.

1. Sounds as though you've picked a winner!
Of course, I'm clueless....

Never heard of her.....

BTW....could you tell me.......

Just what it means when you say "cover"?

My education continues, thanks!

3. Cover = a re-do of someone else's song.

2. I've got a great recording of her singing Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right"
What a voice. What lips!

6. Liked her since her FIRST album, waaaaaay before the tv show.
My faves: Don't Cry Ilene and He Ain't With Me. She does a great Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow on that one too--it was later on one of the Tv show albums.
Enjoy!

Btw; have you ever heard Alana Davis? She does a great cover of 32 Flavors by Ani DiFranco; and that whole album is pretty good.
