That's an ice sport, right?

5. I love Curling
Fall down, madly in love w/ it; the season just ended up here and the World Championship was in town last month.

I love this commercial; it's impossibly cheesy (even for 1986), but it's true, too:

6. What is it the women
players yell? Can't remember but a friend does an impersonation that cracks me up.

It's something that sounds suggestive.

22. you could answer this
What does "hurry hard" mean? Since I have been in Canada I have watched curling some and most of it I can figure out from context or commentators, but "hurry hard" I just don't understand. "Hurry" I guess means sweep fast & get some speed up but "hard"? How does the skip actually direct the sweeping?

31. and what effect does that have
on the rock? And am I right to think that "hurry" just means sweep faster? Exactly what makes it curl?

32. It melts the upper layer of ice, forming a thin film of water.
The harder and faster it is swept, the more the ice will melt, and the faster the rock will go.

18. lots here in Canada
Years ago I first met someone in CAnada coming into a bar with a straw broom (The Classic Style) which he called "athletic equipment", I did a full spit-take. I'm a transplant from New England. Didn't know anything at all about curling then, but have watched it since and find it quite mesmerizing, although I still don't get some of the terminology. Can someone tell me exactly what "hurry hard" means?

19. There's a tiny little town near here with a curling club,
a Grange Hall, a Presbyterian Church, and a grain elevator. There are no other curling clubs in the area, so I have no idea who they compete with. And I've wondered, because the town has a Scottish sounding name (township--not incorporated) and a Presby church...is curling a Scottish thing?

29. I like curling
I've never played it, though my dad was a fanatic. It's a game that's particularly well-suited for TV, in fact, it's far better on the tube than being there live, as you can easily see where everything is on the rings. If you're there, you can sit at one end of the rink and have a good look at half the game, or somewhere in the middle and have a fair-to-poor view of the whole thing.

I agree, woman curlers these days are mighty fine.
