Hmm....anything played on the local hard rock station between the end of grunge alternative and the beginning of emo. I didn't listen to it much, but all the songs sounded flat and monotone and similar and the singer didn't really sing so much as scream and the lyrics were always about white suburban broken homes, like, "My father left and took the 42 inch TV with him and I'm so angry about that."

Rather than single out a single song, I'll give a few Lifetime Achievement Awards for Sucky Merit:

Foghat: There's a reason they were always the opening act and not the headliner.

Nickleback: Knuckleheads.

Korn: I'd rather have a fork driven into my eye than listen to them.

Any of the interchangeable Nu Metal bands with low-tuned guitars and a vocalist who sounds like he's having post Rumplemintz-and-Miller High Lifedry heaves.

Limp Bizkit: Fred Durst. Nuff ced.

Lou Gramm: Even when Foreigner had a decent song, his voice made it a bad experience.

Ratt: The epitome of the talentless hair metal act. I had the misfortune of seeing them at an all-day festival in 1984, when they shared the stage with Twisted Sister (surprisingly fun as a live act) and Cheap Trick. Let's just say that the comparisons weren't to Ratt's benefit.

Scorpions: Pomp-metal and a leather clad guy with a receding hairline? Um, right.
