I sang in Beethoven's 9th Symphony this past Saturday night
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 11:36 PM by Poiuyt
Wow! What an experience! It was definitely one of the high points in my life.

I started to get nervous Friday night at the dress rehearsal when the man standing next to me almost passed out. I didn't have to just worry about knowing the music, but I had to worry about having a heart attack, too. For the performance, I was in the last row of the bleachers, and when we stood to start our singing in the 4th movement, my knees started shaking. Just like in a cartoon! I guess I was afraid of falling backwards since there was no back fence. But I didn't fall over or throw up. All went well and it looked like the audience was happy too. We got an immediate standing ovation at the end that lasted about five minutes, so it was worth all the hard work.

I think I'll travel around the country performing in choruses for the 9th. Now that I know it, It seems like such a waste to never sing it again.

1. Hey Congratulations

:applause:

That sounds like a cool thing to do, though I'm sure I'd pass out or throw up - or both.

:hi:

3. My favorite symphony by my favorite composer
I have several recordings but my favorite is the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Herbert von Karajan.

4. My dear Poiuyt...
Congratulations on your achievement!

I don't know why there isn't a back fence on those bleachers! :scared:

You should definitely sing it some more...

I'm sure it'll be easier next time, too!

5. My dear Peggy
Luckily, there was a pole that I could grab when I felt the need to steady myself. I couldn't hold it all the time, but it acted as my security blanket.

I would love to sing it again. But I think that this was a once in a lifetime chance for me. I should at least join a local chorus of some kind. It's fun to sing with other people who like to sing.
