Can you tell heaven from hell?

Wish You Were Here Lyrics

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

17. Well, i've never tried it
but if it were as good as the real thing, then all men should have it.

19. sounds deadly.
now what the world needs is a Sony Wii type game connected to a fleshlight apparatus with virtual reality goggles and porn.

wait, it would destroy the very fabric of society because men would cease to go to work once they got it.

27. Can't you see it,
Some guy has not shown up to work for a week. When the cops break his door down, he is standing naked in the living room goggles on, drool flowing, and fleshlight in hand. We we need a whole set of new laws. No abusing the fleshlight.

8. I think that heaven would be...
having an unlimited supply of batteries and volunteers to help you with it  that you could choose who they were.

hell would be having no batteries, and nothing but hot fire everywhere and no windows or pictures and maybe the idea that people were in fact having all kinds of fun in the other room but you couldn't hear or see them.

6. so with the good comes the bad as well
or the grass is greener on the other side of the fence but it still has to be mowed and it might need more work

sometimes maybe hell is a better choice is it is simpler.

might have a good point if that was what it was?

12. not just the good and the bad
but the unimaginable pleasure and the indescribable pain. the absolute love and the absolute hate, all in the same place at the same time

sorry, i'm reflecting on things and times now passed

14. no you are right
all of these things coexist in the universe simultaneously. perhaps even from the same sources? love and hate are not opposites, they are reflective of each other. indifference is the true opposite of love and hate. pain vs. pleasure. one person's pleasure is pain to another and visa versa.

all life is a conglomeration of reflections of past, and present. Everything we experience now is viewed through the filter of the past experiences you've had. So reflection is part of what we do, either consciously (whereby we have a chance to say hmmm do I want to keep that filter in place) or subconsciously whereby we aren't aware of the filter's existence except through the reactions we have to things.

For instance someone who has a phobia of driving. Their past experiences of driving (maybe a bad experience or maybe just the past experiences of driving and being afraid are powerful filters that are on that distort reality) changing present experiences through a process of awareness, changing behavior, processing the feelings and thoughts and developing new thoughts or beliefs about that experience are what constitutes change on a cognitive level.

Change comes at other levels as well, but we are thinking creatures and most of our changes come through thinking and then changing behaviors and rethinking them again.

21. it is that simultaneity that i'm thinking of
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 02:05 AM by kagehime
nothing more, nothing less

they can be very separate and distinct but they can also exist within the same situation and be almost indistinguishable

i'm very simple tonight

edit: i'm so simple, i don't like to use words right

15. well i'm not who you addressed this to
but she may be getting wings and tots so i'll address this

more than a paradox, a set of parodoxes whereby yes, pleasure is pain and visa versa, but also other paradoxes in place such as good vs. evil is good always good in every circumstance? Is evil always evil in every circumstances?

did they get you to trade your heroes for gold?

we're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year... yeah, i feel that way sometimes, you wh?

16. hell under B*sh
has been relative to the extent to which we will not be (relatively) aware for years to come. For instance deficit spending, we are barely aware of what that has done to our economy and the future of it in an increasingly globalized economy. The debt that is piled high on our children and children's children is insurmountable and will therefore lead ultimately to some kind of collapse.

hell hath no fury like a ________ scorn. we will (relatively) find out if we live long enough. (which may not be long at all the way things are crumbling around the foundation of our social fabric and society)

Didn't mean to kill your thread, but you bring up heaven and hell, and I just think: Bush.

Now, on to more positive things... :toast:   :hi:

23. it's cool
it's all good... thinking and talking about it are better than burying heads in the sand and doing nothing

at least if we all start talking more about it over and over then something will have to be done.
