Rolls-Royces are really boring looking cars.
I saw one yesterday driving along North Michigan Avenue. It looked like it was brand new.

For $300,000 or however much those things cost, you'd think they'd make something more pleasing to the eye.

1. Yeah, the new ones have lost all their character and charm.
:puke:

I don't like them.

They always had such distinctive and elegant designs, but now they don't look much different from most cars, and even look a little uglier.

5. See, that's beautiful.

Oh, man. The Silver Wraith was a gorgeous car.

I think it speaks of the blandness of car design today. If I hadn't seen the hood ornament on the Rolls-Royce I saw yesterday, I would have sworn it was a Ford or something.

6. The new models all look the same. But you have to admit the older ones.

9. Very True. I'd much rather be seen in one of these.

And it's about $200K less than a RR.

10. That's a hot car.
Would that be a Maserati, by any chance?

13. Yes! A Maserati Quattroporte.
Italian design is so far ahead of everyone else. A beautiful car.

11. This one ain't boring...
But many early Rolls-Royces had bespoke (custom) bodywork. They were literally one-of-a-kind creations.

Here's one of my favorites, the Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe. Note that it has ROUND doors!

14. Try a 1943 Packard (sorry no photo)
Edited on Thu Apr-19-07 03:58 PM by freethought
I saw this car at a small auto show in Portland, Maine. It was up against some antiques and classic muscle cars. It looked much like the 1927 Rolls Royce that is photographed in the thread above.
It was probably the first car that I looked at that kept my mouth hanging open in total awe. Truly a gorgeous machine. Convertible, with a maroon body and black fenders, plenty of polished chrome, and BIG.
I wish my father had been alive to see it. He truly would have appreciated it.

Did a little searching, try this link and you'll see a Packard close to what I saw that day.

Look for the 1931 Dual Cowl Phaeton, and you'll get the idea.

We saw one in Atascadero last weekend. ZZZZZZZZ!

I see some older ones in Beverly Hills sometimes. THOSE are nice looking.
