Stay out of GD if you value your sanity.
I made the mistake of posting in a thread about gun control. WHY WHY WHY???

1. I've tackled the subjects of abortion, free speech, capital punishment,
prison reform, voting rights...

Gun control is one subject I REFUSE to get involved in!

:scared:

2. Put on an reinforced flamesuit,

take a deep breath, and remember,

some people will argue with anyone over anything.

Sometimes they agree with you and they're still arguing!

:-)

16. It's not worth going there. Too many gun threads
You can post anything you want and not get flamed. Everybody's posting, but nobody's reading.

Like an old Monty Python skit about an "argument room".
That's not arguing, that's contradicting
T'isn't

19. I've pretty much spent the last two days in there...
and I'm done, it seems like there is no way to have a civil discourse in there at all. Even when I vehemently disagree with someone, I try to stay polite. Something about the faceless nature of the internet that allows people to be assholes to one another. Quick someone start a thread about kittens and puppies to lower my blood pressure!

25. What I learned in GD yesterday re: Va Tech Shootings: Cho was either
bipolar or depressed or schizophrenic or abused as a child or had been sexually abused, was on anti-depressants, or wasn't but should have been...I also learned that if everyone carried a concealed weapon only one or two people would have died..Yes, if you value your sanity stay in the lounge for a few more days!

28. Why? Because it needs to be said over and over.
The society you live in needs to be a civil society.
The shootout at the OK corral was not acceptable then.
It is not acceptable now.
The peace of the graveyard is a worthless peace.
Cheers

31. It can be brutal.... but once you get your 'sea legs' there
it can be a very interesting forum. But til one is no longer the 'feint of heart' per GD, it might be wise to stay out of the 'topic de jour' (the one that has dozens of threads on the topic). I love the GD - but had to "learn it" before I got could get a lot out of participating in the GD.

I need an intervention. I will write a hundred times on the blackboard, "I will not get mad about anything in GD, no matter how incredibly fucking stupid some turdburger decides to be."
