1. Imagine how bad it hurts to be out of shape.
Edited on Sun Apr-15-07 07:10 PM by PeaceNikki
I weighed the pain... physical vs emotional of being out of shape and overweight and UNHEALTHY to the pain of exercise. I've been on 3 straight weeks of working out every day - 21 days. Every day it's a mental fight. Especially 5 minutes into my 30 minute cardio. But I fight it because the pain of not being healthy and happy is far worse.

You can do it!! I know this because if I can, anyone can. Hang in there!!

2. I intend to.

I felt a bit better when exercising my traps with the dumbbells.

It IS going to get better.

My neck still hurts the most; since the disc fusion the lack of mobility has made some things more difficult...

I have a physical tomorrow so I will let the doc know my concerns AND what I am doing (walking/jogging/weights) and get tips. But the burning sensation scared me... but I am hoping THAT is a temporary thing; due to the fused disc grating on the muscles and nothing more severe.

It is a mental training issue. I stopped doing some exercises and have noticed weakness, but for the ones I still do I've noticed no weakness.

I am going to be fine; I will re-condition myself and the pain will go away. (it started as burning but is now only dull and when I move in certain positions. I have no tingling or numbness... indeed, before I started jogging, I had big problems with the lower back and tingling/numb feet. Those HAVE improved. it is all muscular. And the doc will confirm that tomorrow.)

I like jogging.

I am going to be normal.

6. Have you joined a gym?
One just opened in my area, that's what got my ass in gear. I love it and HIGHLY recommend it! It's a newer franchise that started in MN... it's open 24/7/365 and only $35/month! Machines are incredible!! http://www.snapfitness.com/club_locator/club_locator.cfm

This machine is responsible for making my lower back pain disappear: http://www.matrixfitness.com/products/selectorized/backextension.asp

3. 'Cause you're a wuss?
or a whiner?

or maybe you over did it

take some ibuprofen, soak in a hot tub, and sleep.

make sure you are hydrated and you'll be fine working the soreness out when you go tomorrow!

:D

7. Used to be #1 hence my starting my self-improvement...
I think I overdid it;' when chatting with mum on the phone, she warned me not to overdo it either.

I'll admit, it's been a long while since I walked/jogged for a straight hour... and for a while I felt really good.

I'll pop the pills and retire early...

As time goes by, I know it's gonna get much better, my belly fat disappearing, and being dyn-o-mite.

5. My bro is a dentist. He turned me on to ibuprofen. Stuff is great

for inflammatory pain like over-exercising.

One or two right before or after exercise will make a world of difference, when you plan to hit it hard.

We went backpack camping with 70 lbs packs straight up the side of a mountain one time. Without ibuprofen, I wouldn't have been able to walk on day two . . .

ON EDIT--Don't drink alcohol with it (or acetamenaphen either). It can harm your liver depending on dosage and sensitivity.

8. The pain is only temporary.
When I started, I was the same. Now, no matter how hard I work out, I'm just a tiny bit sore the next day. Sometimes, I'm not sore at all.

Besides, I've started to kind of like the pain. It makes me feel like I've actually done something useful.

9. Yep, it feels bad when you're starting cold turkey
but a nice hot bath oughta help that -- with some epsom salts in it maybe. Or a sauna if you have one handy.

I have been too lazy all winter too and my hike today was way more difficult than it should have been. But I feel great, relaxed, tired, and like I accomplished something today -- and looking forward to feeling good and being healthy again!

11. Because your guidance is for shit.
Sorry, bro, but I've chimed in on your fitness posts for months now. I've gotten nothing back, so I can only say this.

Fact is, considering your situation, you need a professional. Nothing against you, but more against your trainer/therapist/etc.

And yeah, I've got 3 certs now, so...
