Wow. Mexi-Coke is really good.
I bought a few bottles of imported Coca-Cola made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and it taste SO MUCH BETTER than the shit they pass off as Coca-Cola domestically.

3. I was at Albertson's grocery store and they had a cooler full of them...
I looked on the green tinted glass bottle and saw the word "sugar" instead "high fructose corn syrup" and decided to buy a few (they cost a dollar for a 12 oz bottle), but the taste is so much better.

4. Is there anyway to get HFCS banned?
It tastes like crap and is nasty stuff.

9. Is it really that much worse than sugar?
I thought both pretty much have the same effect on blood glucose levels.

18. Jaredh, the jury is out on that one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fructose_corn_syrup

Going by taste, cane sugar has HFCS beat, IMHO.

Since its use is so widespread, even Hansen's Sodas
uses it! yuck- it's going to be a tough battle to prove it's unhealthy.

But as another member posted here,

it may be self banning, which would be great!

;-)

10. It's almost self-banning--
due to rising costs, soda companies are looking to go back to cane sugar and other less expensive sweeteners. :D

12. The real thing
Nothing better than a cane sugar coca cola.
I'm convinced the new coke fiasco in the 80's was really a distraction to hide the switch to HFCS in colas.

I highly recommend the Jamaican or Pineapple. :)

16. Passover Coke...
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 12:11 PM by ThinkBlue1966
They make Coke with 'cane sugar' here in the States, too, but you can usually only find it in places with high concentrations of Jewish folks, and only in the springtime; corn syrup is not kosher for Passover.

I am completely ignorant of such things so I am truly curious what it is that makes Corn Syrup not Kosher.

24. I don't know in the

traditional sense/ use of the word kosher.

I was using it as a term for 'acceptable'.

HFCS is not an " all natural" ingredient, no matter
what the new 7-Up ads state.
That may be a reason.

32. It's weird that corn-based products would be
prohibited since Judaism predates the "discovery" and movement of corn to Europe from the Americas. What about tomatoes or squash or chocolate?

39. Any soda made with HFCS is, well beyond putrid
Since Coke went on the cheap, followed by Pepsi in the late '70's, I have only imbibed in diet soda.

But I hate coke really, ever since my mom gave me Coke syrup (you needed a prescripion for that in the '60's) for nausea, I can't stand the taste of the stuff.
