4. Amistad museum in Hartford?
Also in Hartford are the Mark Twain home, the Harriet Beecher Stowe home, and other interesting sites.

6. Monday should be interesting
Last I heard, they were telling runners to prepare for high winds and heavy rains...There was even talk of cancelling the Marathon. I hope not... *fingers crossed*

Are you gonna walk the Freedom Trail?

I'm prepared for anything now.

We'll take a www.bostontours.com trip around the city on Tuesday and see the sights.

12. Well, if you REALLY want to experience New England...
a nor'easter is a good way to get the vibe. Take rum for hot toddies!

13. Ain't that the truth!
I went to NE two years ago in the teeth of a rare spring nor'easter. But watching the waves crash on the rocks in York Harbor and at Lands End on Bailey Island was awe-inspiring.

Was also there last August; Boston, Cambridge, Danvers, Salem, and NH and it was gorgeous.

Going back in May - can't wait. I love New England!

14. New England is wonderful
but the beginning of next week the weather is supposed to be horrid. Make sure you pack an umbrella.

Newport, RI is an hour drive from Boston, and it's just beautiful.

15. Later in the week if the weather is better`
I suggest Block Island in RI

Great place and some awesome restaurants right off the pier.

16. Portland Maine is one of New Englands top culinary destinations.
Hence, living here I'm getting a bit larger!
Stay away from DeMillo's floating restaurant. If you can, eat at Fore Street restaurant. He is considered one of America's top chefs, perhaps the best in the North East. Seriously.

17. Either in Portland or Boston, I recommend taking a ferry ride
IF the weather is good that is. It's a nice way to get a little more ocean feel in your trip.

In Boston, the harbor islands are a park now and there are ferries to them, plus other ferries for commuters to Hull.

Portland has commuter boats to the islands off shore and a round trip to Peaks, the first island, would take 40 minutes. The island itself is pretty quiet in the winter but I think the inn up the hill from the ferry landing is open year round.

Also in Portland in lieu of a ferry ride one may drive up to the Eastern Promenade and look out into the bay. There are historic points of interest not far away, including the Eastern observatory (http://www.portlandlandmarks.org/portland_observatory/eastend_observatory.shtml,) Longfellow's boyhood home, and the Victoria Mansion.

In NH, drive up I-93 to the White Mountains. Most of the town adjacent to 93 have year round activity.

There's so much colonial history in NE that you'll be tripping over it. Have a great trip.
