To All Fellow Babyboomers...

Do you angrily hit the mute button when a commercial comes on the television that targets our generation, and they use a popular tune from the sixties to hawk their product?

I cannot stand the thought of "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida" being used to sell investment advice, or "I heard it Through the Grapevine" to sell raisins.

1. Nope. I just sigh and change the channel.
Haven't had to do that in a long while, though, as I rarely watch TV stations with commercials in 'em.

2. Remember when rock n roll was the language of rebellion?
It's now the language of capitalism. Does that mean we won the war or that we lost it? ~sigh~

3. Funny you should bring this up
I saw a commercial this morning using the Beach Boys "I get around." It was for a motorized, wheeled chair for the handicapped and elderly. I thought, damn, using my generations music to push stuff like that, then I thought, damn, I might need one someday.

5. I don't like the stereotyping.
The marketing is annoying, even when done by Dennis Hopper (!), but what I absolutely cannot abide is the popularity of stereotyping baby boomers as spoiled, greedy, self-absorbed, and taken over by a sense of entitlement. You see a lot of it in the media, especially when it comes to Medicare and Social Security discussions. Yeah, we pay into a system for decades and are suddenly regarded as "greedy" when we expect it to continue for each generation. :eyes
