Dumplings? Dumplins? WTF?

WTF? It's all good. The taste is the only thing that matters and perogies are the best.

An east european delicacy. Dumplings basically, but stuffed with potatoes, cheese, and onions. Very tasty when fried with bacon and served with sour cream.

a potato cottage cheese or potato cheddar filling. They also can be a potato sauerkraut or meat filling. They are boiled and served with fried onions, sour cream and bacon. If you want to be authentic, serve them with polish sausage. There are also desert perogies, but I have never eaten them.

Perogie is the Polish term for them, Pedahay is the Ukrainian term.

27. Hi QMPMom!
:hi:

My mother also used to make them with buckwheat filling. (which I didn't like) I've also heard of plum and/or prune filled.

Have you ever been to the Italian Centre? Their frozen section has a gazillion different kinds - including strawberry filled (of course they aren't traditional).

Where is spring?

29. Hey u4ic! We were just at the Italian Centre today.
I have never tried the fruit filled ones and don't really want to. I loved they meat filled ones from the Pyrogy House on 118 Ave. To bad that someone burned the place down.

Spring and Summer: They were here for ten minutes or so.....

If it's nice on Sunday I am ready to toss the whole big dinner thing and go to Hawrelak Park.

Edited to add: I had never heard of perogies until I moved up here. Friends took us to this little bar in Duvernay and I fell in love with them.

8. Nope.
The only problem with perogies ever is that the Italian deli near my house makes 6 different kinds and only sell them in mixed batches and they all look the same...and one is sweetened ricotta. Friends...there is a reason that a ravioli is only 1/4" thick. 2 tsp. of ricotta is like having a mouth full of curdled milk. Other than that...perogi is perfect food. Potato and cheese perogi is L-O-V-E...Love Love Love.

I have to make gluten free ones now; them made with rice flour isn't as good as with wheat, but at least I can still enjoy them.

Did you get another blast of winter recently, as well? Dang, just when I thought road construction season was about to begin...:(
