1. China Beach
from what I understand, the music is the hold up. Apparently, getting permission to put the music on the DVDs is prohibitively expensive.

5. I have it on DVD
all 66 episodes on 33 discs. Started out as copies (pretty good) from the History Channel-we are on disc 18 now I think and it now is from Lifetime. Neither channel's programming has changed much since then apparently.

I got it for my wife for Christmas from TVplanet.com or something like that. I had never seen the show (I was in the Army when it was on.) Pretty good. It is funny to see how they changed the show from the pilot to even the fourth show.

6. That's what held up "WKRP in Cincinnati" for so long
Imagine having to clear music for that one!

Luckily, they seem to have resolved most of those issues and it's coming out on DVD.

Some of those old music rights are outrageous. I was listening to the commentary track for "Layer Cake" and they said that the cost of using "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones was very close to the production expenses of the whole movie. But the producer really wanted the song.

56. From what I understand, that is what took Hawaii 5-0 so long
Getting all the rights for all the music played in the nightclub scenes, etc.

What a nightmare that must have been.
I can relate, since I am trying to secure rights for images I'm going to reproduce in my thesis, which won't even be for sale!! It's a major headache.

The vast majority of the episodes are available in a torrent on Demonoid.com. The entire first season is officially available through iTunes. Word is that sales of the episodes through iTunes might influence a DVD release.

As discussed earlier in the thread, the music clearances are the major stumbling block to it being released on DVD.

Washington, DC's UPN airs reruns of it, I just saw one, but it's in season five and well over a year ago I watched the season 1 DVD - which stuck the viewer on a big cliffhanger that I still don't know the end to.

75. Dave Allen at Large!
For those unfamiliar (and my guess is that's probably just about everyone here), this show bascially employed the exact format later used on Chapelle's Show - a mix of stand-up in front of a live audience interspersed with pre-taped sketches. Dave Allen was an Irish comic who loved to incorporate lots of biting religious satire in his comedy, yet none of it was done in a mean-spirited way. He happened to be Catholic, and this was one my favorite bits:

"The funniest was the one where a man comes into a church in order to confess, and finds a large group of people sitting in the pews on one side, waiting their turn. When he asks if there's any other priest available, he's told, "Well, there's Father Murphy, but he's a bit..." and we suddenly hear Father Murphy (Allen) roaring, "You did WHAT????" Then he bursts out of the confessional, tears open the door on the other side, hauls out the cowering male sinner and beats the tar out of him. The conclusion is perfect, as he rounds on the staring crowd of waiting penitents and shouts, "NEXT!" while they all jump and pretend to be looking the other way."

76. From my late 80's/early 90's childhood, the PBS show Square One
A show full of math-related cheesy jokes and 80's music. Back in the day, Square One helped make many kids like myself total math nerds.

Here's a typically irreverent math song from the show:

80. I was a big fan of Chicago Hope
ER was a better "commercial" TV program, but Chicago Hope had better stories and it had a stable full of wonderful actors, I catch reruns when I am a work at 4am whenver possible.
