Former Star Search Winner, Church Pastor arrested for burglary (No, not Dennis Miller or Sinbad!)
‘Star Search’ winner indicted

Former “Star Search” winner David Nelson Slater, 44, has been indicted on four charges of burglary of a building - a state jail felony - relating to offenses reported by the Midlothian ISD.

Slater was arrested in January after Midlothian police said they had video surveillance tape of the singer inside Frank Seale Middle School. Police said they believed Slater may have been responsible for burglary offenses at the school that had occurred over the past two years.

Police said the tape showed Slater entering one of the school’s computer labs with a key and leaving with several computers, taking them to his car. Slater may have obtained the key while serving as associate pastor of a church that no longer meets at the school. Slater was arrested without incident and remains in custody at Wayne McCollum Detention Center under $180,000 bond.

Slater was the 1987 male vocalist champion on “Star Search,” a talent show that aired from 1983-1995. Slater received $100,000 as the title winner and also signed a recording contract with Capitol Records, releasing two albums, “Exchange of Hearts” and “Be with Me,” according to Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia.

1. God helps those who help themselves
And he was helping himself to a bunch of stuff.

Perhaps he can find another Dobson cure that will remove his desire to pilfer in three weeks or less.

Television career

In the early 1980s Miller hosted The Trolley Show, a Saturday-afternoon newsmagazine for teenagers, on Pittsburgh's KDKA-TV. <6> He also produced humorous essays for the syndicated PM Magazine television program. Miller then began performing standup in New York comedy clubs such as Catch A Rising Star and The Comic Strip, as well as in Los Angeles at The Comedy Store. He appeared on Star Search, where he lost out to fellow comedian Sinbad.

If you didn't already know that, then you don't hate Dennis Miller enough to be a REAL progressive.

:P

(I'm just teasing you)

4. Well, I don't COMPLETELY hate the guy
but I find him distateful. I did like him on SNL and I have to admit he is clever with a turn of the phrase and he is quick. His monologues can be well done and fast.

But he got kind of crazy after 911 and lost his objectivity, I guess. I also think Al Franken got less funny the more politically active he got, so I'm glad he's going into the real thing.

Personally, I like funny where I don't have to think too hard. Dumb funny. Like Jim Carrey.
