1. It was fantastic. I saw it twice (which I never want to do with a film).
I wrote a review about it here at DU earlier:

"It was a great movie. And here's one reason why: it was beautifully, beautifully filmed. I'm so glad to have seen it on the big screen. It was richly and accurately set for the times--the majority of the film is set in the late 60's to mid 70's and everything was just right, but not overly done with cliched 70's stuff. The lighting was perfect too in every scene. It was visually very pleasing. Some breath-taking shots of San Fransisco--especially an aerial of the Golden Gate bridge in the fog (but the best one I've ever seen), and one of the TransAmerica building being built in one amazing shot.

The movie was taut with suspense. It was over 2 and 1/2 hours long but it never felt like it. Even though it's based on a true story, which it kept very true to, it still reminded me of a suspenseful Hitchcock film.

Jake Gyllenhall and Robert Downey Jr. were excellent. They are exceptional actors. Downey could very well score a best supporting actor Oscar nod (imho)."

8. They tried to get it released in time to make this year's nominations
but they didn't make it in time. (I read that somewhere but don't remember where.)

Too bad about that.

everything about this movie rang true

do you think it was arthur leigh allen?

why didn't they pursue the vaughn/wallace angle?

i thought i would shit my pants when graysmith followed him down into the basement :scared:

I think I'd have to have read those to really comment about why they didn't pursue the Vaughn/Wallace angle.

49. i have no theory other than it's a stupefying case...
...except that Zodiac may have been two people working in concert.
..but that theory gets shot up too.

anyway...there are clearly some inaccuracies in Graysmith's book.
however, on some of the sites, like the one i mentioned above, there is material that suggests Zodiac was far more active than anyone believes.
and there may be copycats active today.

sounds unbelievable I know....but snoop around on the web....warning: you will get addicted to this case.... guaranteed.
and it will frequently scare the shit out of you..

no, i haven't seen the film, to answer your question...but I will....

22. There are so many theories still floating around.
Lots of people say Graysmith's book (on which the movie was based) wasn't accurate and that it wasn't Arthur Leigh Allen at all. People have been posting about the case for years here: www.zodiackiller.com and it has some interesting information.

I really don't know if I think it was Arthur Leigh Allen. Maybe. The movie was well done, though.

10. I will probably watch it when it comes out on video
or on tv. I don't know much about the story and am avoiding learning about it so I will not be familiar with it when I watch it. But all I do is watch crime and forensics shows lately. I am now hooked on staying up til 2:00 a.m every night to watch Da Vinci's Inquest, which is about a coroner in Canada and the cops he works with. I got hooked on it when I was sick and sleeping all day and sitting up all night and now I can't let go, lol.

and thought that made a longer lasting impression than most of the throw-away movies made now.

It didn't really leave me feeling scared, just kind of unsettled and frustrated that the case was never solved.

And, yes, I thought it was a very good film!

47. I'm hoping they'll show it during my Hawaiian cruise next month
On NCL. In 2005 I took a cruise to Alaska and they had popular movies about 2-4 months old. Zodiac is probably going to be too new to make it into the NCL rotation at that point but I'm willing to gamble. Sounds like such a perfect movie for a relaxing cruise ship atmosphere.

IMO, Arthur Leigh Allen was nothing but a frump, one of the worst suspects of all time in a major case. I threw him out within 10 minutes of stumbling onto that zodiackiller.com message board about 5 years ago.

I'd love to wager the Zodiac's true identity has never surfaced, among suspects of any level.

The joke suspect is Ted Kaczynski. That took less than 10 minutes. Kaczynski was an articulate and educated guy who properly called people "who" and not "that." Check out his manifesto. You can't find one botched reference to a person as "that." Yet Zodiac did it all the time in his known writings, mixing who and that about 50/50, which is normal among the population. Most people agree Zodiac said, "I'm the one THAT did it," in his famous phone call to police. Kaczynski would never have been that inept.

48. Enjoy the movie,
just know that like most of what comes out of Hollywood, it's fabrication. I almost like Hollywood better when they make stuff out of whole cloth because people don't have as distorted a view of what they now consider reality.

That said, it was well-acted and directed, and the camera work is AMAZING. But it drags so badly in the second half that I thought I might nod off. Not scary at all, actually, and I'm usually scared by everything.
