Mean bully fish.
We have a little fish tank with a cute little golden fish who looks at me when she's hungry. A fish died so we thought we'd get another fish like her for company. This other fish got big and eats all the food and Golden Drop hides at the bottom of the tank and looks very sad. When I feed the fish the big one pushes the little one out. I'm so afraid she'll die so I told my husband to take out that mean bully and take him to the pet store. This bully fish killed a neon fish and I won't have my little Golden Drop die. It's bad enough the neighbor's cat killed our bird, but if the little fish dies I'll be upset. I just don't want any pets at all. I can't stand them dying.

1. I'm with you. I like being the 'Goddess of the Aquarium'. I can't save...
the world, but I can make sure that there are no bullies in the aquarium.

2. Fish aren't unfeeling either.
Golden Drop is sad 'cause she's not the Queen anymore. Sunny Ray has to go. If he causes her death then he's garden fertilzer.

3. Get the bully out ASAP.
And make sure the water is in best condition for a while so Golden Drop won't be distressed by change in water quality. Feed her small amounts often so the excess won't foul the water.

I don't work with fish anymore, but those tactics may help.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, pray, et al, for the fish. (Perhaps I am sentimental; but there is an aspect to your story that tuned me in and felt for the little fish...)

5. Some fish species are known to be aggressive
Usually the tanks at the pet store are labeled or the staff can tell you so you don't put non-aggressive fish in with aggressive fish (never a good combination). For example, cichlid fish (Jack Dempsey, Oscars, African cichilds) are usually agressive as are many of the barb family (Tiger barbs, etc). Guppies and mollies, swordtails, etc are usually non-aggressive.

8. I used to run the pet department
of a large store. The over-night crew, for entertainment, would take my shipments of fighting fish and stick them in one tank, and then place bets. When I would come in the next morning, more than half of my fish would be dead. :grr:

7. Sick the bully fish on the neighbor's cat. It's a win/win situation.
