As a DU'er who found this virtual oasis in May 2001,cheers to my fellow DU veterans who are also slow posters, and to all my DU friends who allow me to maintain political sanity for people like me living in the midst of Occupied Texas -- especially after 9/11.

Wow it' gonna be wierd not seeing my post count go up now -- now, I'm going to just show the (1000+ posts) like all the big shots!!

   :yourock: :grouphug: :loveya:

13. That praire home invasion album rocks!!!

"Buy My Snake Oil", is a rockabilly update of the old Dead Kennedys' classic, "Pull My Strings" you know.

Are you in Austin corporatewhore? The text on my sigline is from a singer/sonwriter from the Lubbock area (Odonnell) Cary Swinney. Many of his songs would strike a familiar chord with lots of DU'ers. He's gonna be at Gruene Hall in a couple of weeks.

They've won something like 18 out of their last 19 games and are on a proverbial roll!!! They usually don't peak until sometime in March. I hope they're not peaking to soon.

20. Right. You have 999, and 1000 left
For my 500th post, I thought of a little prose, and posted, just when Will Pitt let us in on his romance.

I maybe could have competed with a long diatribe from Will about the sorry state of our government, but no chance against his romance. My 500th post (which started a thread) sunk like a rock.

Timing is everything!

That sounds like the weekend of my annual guys-only fishing trip at South Padre Island. I go hang out with about 30 to 50 cousins for three days of fishing, drinking and eating.

I did have a roommate in college that was from Grand Rapids around 1979.

My 1000th post is scheduled at 02:00 a.m. CST.

I had trouble getting on then went to go look for snack. Shit...I've gained like 45 lbs since I quit smoking almost 2 years ago. I snack & Eat all the time.

For the record. the pic on my sigline is that of Captain Silas Soule(Thas a civil war union uniform CW). A truly forgotten hero in U.S. history that my DU name is in honor of. He was a Masachusetts abolitionist involved with the Underground railroad and was involved in several rescue and breakout attempts including that of Fredrick Douglas. HE later became a Union officer and was sent West during the last years of the Civil war to fight the Indian Wars. There was a massacre of a Cheyenne village of mostly women and children at Sand Creek Colorado on November 29th 1864 lead by a bloodthirsty Colonel named Chivington, Captain Soule was under his command. Soule directed his men to hold their ground and to "not" participate in the blood letting, while carnage was all around them. People were shocked at the savagry used the U.S. Army at Sand Creek and in the aftermath of the massacre body parts put on public display in Denver. An investigation ensued and Captain Soule was in forefront of giving testimony that what Chivingtion did was outright murder. Before the inquest ended he was shot by one of Chivington's men. He was 34 years old. Some historians credit this event at Sand Creek for the shift in Indian policy from complete annihaltion to containment to reservations and thus attribute Soule with potentially saving countless of Native American lives.

For my 1000th post please sing along with me. My one of my favorite Cary Swinney Songs. You can hear the MP3 Here Sing along with me now.......

Johnson Grass Farm
To that spirit of freedom, innocence and independence
in all of us

I'm gonna live on marijuana
and I ain't gonna work at all

I'm gonna find me a house in the country
and grow that shit 'bout ten feet tall

I'm gonna plant, alongside Johnson Grass
which I pray grows, a little taller

If ya slide by the house -
and the lights are out -

you will hear me hoop 'n holler

(Chorus)

Lord Jesus, I'm stoned
ain’t doin' nobody no wrong
Doin' a little bit 'a
front porch thinkin'
some star-studded dreamin'
and singin' those gospel songs
Ain’t doin' nobody no harm
livin' on a Johnson Grass farm
I'm not guilty
of a crime
I'm just havin' me a time
and waitin' on the harvest to come

When the sun, in the evenin'
slowly slithers down

You will find me in my backyard
diggin' them plants up outta the ground

Naked as a newborn baby
and carefree as your local bum

Down on my hands 'n knees
prayin' for a rain shower to come

(Chorus)
