5. Dang...
nice HD. Mine is only 20 GB and it's almost full of MP3's. I feel inferior. I guess size does matter...

8. I have the 20gb model they make--
very, very useful, although I've been warned not to try to use it as a "bang around portable," like you would the little usb jumpdrives.

10. No, I won't.
I will be using it as a portable, but I'm putting it in a padded camera case inside my laptop bag. That should be secure enough.

As far as the off-house backup, we already to that. Mrs. Amok and I save vital files on both our laptops, and I have my business files on a Kensington pullout drive I put in a fire-safe if we ever go away for more than a couple of days.

11. By the way...are you happy with LaCie?
I don't know anyone else with any of their products. I just 'chanced' it. None of the brands I know well offer such a large drive with those features.

13. Thus far... I bought it as necessity when one of my laptops
blew the motherboard when a surge "protector," didn't.... I had Compusa back up the hard drive onto the LaCie and it seems to be pretty reliable. I admittedly have not been as cautious as you in doing regular back-ups and I had lots of stuff there that hadn't yet been transferred to my desktop machine. Had they not had this little jewel as a solution for me, I don't know what I would have done. I suppose I could have backed up on a zillion CDs, but that would have been painful.

19th century America, anyway. I embrace technology, but that doesn't mean I'm not aggravated by it at the same time.

Nonetheless, when we look at where the Bushies want to put billions/trillions of defense dollars (starwars technology, probably this moon/mars adventure) these kind of low tech attacks seem more and more likely. And we will all be left holding the bag...

17. Wow, what an age in which to live...
Seriously, I'm amazed on an nearly daily basis by technological advancements. I wonder how much this age is like the Industrial Revolution, in a "hey Martha, look at that!" sense...

Incidentally, Mrs. Amok still has her first laptop. 14 lbs, and a whopping 4Mb hard drive.
