When you were a kid and got a bad cut, was that the first thing you asked your mom?
Hoping against hope that the answer (pleez god pleez god pleez god) would be "No, I don't think so."

I hated stitches then.
Doesn't seem so bad now.
Never had staples though.
They still do that?

we were kids - stitches were cool, casts were cool.

It usually meant you were doing something you weren't supposed to be doing.

I learned to sew at an early age. If it needed stitching, I would decide ;)

Held my kid brother together more than a couple of times.

5. Yeah, that too, in a pinch. Was happy for the butterfly closure after first time.

Also did up a dog or two when there was no way to get into town to a vet. But, actually, I mostly made clothing. Long arms - got tired of cuffs just below my elbows. Then, I hit puberty (and it hit back) the year Twiggy hit the fashion runways.

But, you would be surprised what one can do with some dental floss and a small pillow needle, which is curved just like those doctor-guys use ;)

6. Staples, yes they do still do that!

My dad passed out, due to low blood sugar, and hit his head this past summer. Stepmonster, er mother, called the ambulance and they put staples in his scalp... very ugly!!!! matcom's dad had his carotid arteries cleaned out a couple years ago and they stapled it closed...equally ugly! Looked like Dr. Frankenstein got a hold of them both...:scared:

I can't imagine they make a better closure, smaller scar than stitches.

9. I had staples for my appy

The appendectomy scar is very faint and healed really nicely. I had sutures on another surgery and had a reaction to the suture material so I not only have the incision scar, there are also little dots of scar tissue where the suture material went through. Looks like dominoes. Different surgeries, different surgeons so it's hard to really compare but I think the staples left a cleaner scar.

12. LOL There ya go! Improvised medicine!

Had a dog that got her hide ripped open but not even the sheath covering muscle involved. 40 miles in a raging blizzard not possible. Called the vet. He asked if I had sheared her hair or if it was still long (the latter). Said to carefully trim and remove hair directly around the ripped flesh, lift the hide to make sure there was no debris, irrigate with sterile water, give a good squirt of neosporin in the wound then tie strands of her hair to pull the skin together.

He asked if I had any antibotic syrup for my young daughter and said to give the dog a couple doses of that. (We had MDs in town, just no vet - I could get the syrup easy ;)

Worked like a charm. Had to really hunt for the scar when she would get her hair cut four times a year.

15. The paramedics did the staples? wow..

my friend recently had a small tumor removed in his back and had staples. I went with him to have them removed the following day. It looked, and from his reaction, quite painful.

It wasn't as bad as him having to pack that nasty wound daily with gauze. blech... :puke:
