I wore white tails (Christian Dior). It was seeing the back of the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour EP not long before my ill-fated wedding that planted the seed -- they wore white tails in that shot -- and when my wife's stepmother told me that I absolutely should not wear white tails the decision was made. :D

The damned wedding hairdresser, though, did not listen to me, and she lopped off my sideburns (probably bottom-of-the-ear at that point, or nearly so) such that I barely had any at all, a look that was trendy back then but that I absolutely detested, especially on me (not that I'd ever had such un-sideburns). I could have throttled the silly cow. :grr:

I had a fairly big one, at a Los Angeles hotel by the sea...kind of a showbiz one (but with behind-the-scenes bigwigs, not stars, present) so even more annoying to me than a regular wedding, probably, because I didn't know half the people and my father-in-law hired a showbiz photographer (one who shoots for the trade magazines, I mean, not a portrait photog) who didn't get one formal portrait of the bride and groom and otherwise peeved the hell out of both of us. On top of that, by the time we got done with saying hello to everyone the food was gone and after everyone had left we wandered to the hotel kitchen where we could see the expensive leftovers but the hotel wouldn't let us have any -- we ended up cruising that section of LA for food at 3 AM and our nuptial meal was a Fatburger and fries each, in our honeymoon suite. The wedding band -- all studio musicians -- was great, though.

Needless to say, if I ever do it again, I'd just as soon skip the hoopla.

Oh, and my childhood best friend -- British by birth -- gave a speech that is eerily similar to that Hugh Grant gives in Four Weddings And A Funeral years later. My whole family, including my grandmother and aunt, and a couple of my good friends flew in from overseas to be in the wedding...that was the other good part.

For my first wedding (to ex-wife), I wore the standard black tux. For the actual wedding to my 2nd wife, I wore a dark suit and a red tied... we had a more formal ceremony 6 months later and I wore a black tux again, and about 15 months later, I wore some traditional Chinese outfits for a wedding day in China (as well as some western style suits)

Weddding to ex wife was about 100 people and fairly standard. The actual wedding to my 2nd wife was with only my parents, grandmother and the justice of the peace. The ceremony 6 months later was in our backyard and had about 30 people.

1. I wore a charcoal-grey cutaway coat and tails with a gold vest and a cream-colored Euro-tie. The best man (my brother) and the groomsmen wore the same only with silver vests.

It was lovingly hand-sewn and beaded and contained elements from my grandmother's wedding dress and my mother's wedding dress. It had about $250 worth of materials in it, but if I'd had to pay for someone to make it, it would have been well over $5,000. :)
