Puppy update...

Erie has been doing great! No poop accidents at all, but he is still struggling a bit with his bladder control. Erie has learned quite a lot in his three days with us including:
  • he gets a treat when he poops or pees outside

  • there may be a treat in is crate when he comes back in

  • his crate is a nice place to sleep

  • he even fetches up to 5 consecutive times before losing focus and running off to do something else

Ernie has been to the vet and given a clean bill of health and an increase in his meal size which he is very pleased about.

Ernie even seems to be getting over his separation anxiety that kept us up listening to him cry Saturday and Sunday nights.

Long Live Ernie! King of the Labradors!

3. what a sweetie!
Funny, we had that same stuffed duck for our yellow lab. It lasted maybe a month before she chewed it to pieces.

4. So far the duck is working well...
He doesn't seem to want the harder chew toys yet and I needed something to stuff in his face when he tries to chew on me :D

5. That sweet gorgeous creature!
What a cutie.

Personally I don't think giving food after certain events does anything. Dogs instinctively avoid soiling the "den" so pooping in the appropriate place(s) is hardwired into them. So in my thinking you are giving the dog treats because you love him and not because he would poop indoors if you stopped the treats.
