How many inches?
Where are you and what are your snow fall totals from Valentine Day snow storm?

we're about 15 miles northeast of Wilkes-Barre Pa - about 18" in our backyard

we went out to shovel around 11am yesterday, cleared the walkway, shoveled a path to the woodpiles and up to the dog run, then shoveled around the cars.

we were hoping a neighbor with a plow would come and do the rest of the driveway.

and then there was a "comedy of good fortune"

Neighbor down the road has a quad with a plow, but the quad was broken. Neighbor managed to fix the quad, and would come to plow us out - problem was too much snow for the quad to handle and our driveway is an uphil drive from the road. So he asked his uncle who has a plow on his truck to help us out.

The uncle showed up, but truck wasn't powerful enough to make it up the hill and we ended up with a huge pile of snow in the middle of the driveway.

Neighbor behind us usually has her driveway plowed by her son who has a humoungus truck. We called him - he would do it, but he can't get out because the town trucks hadn't plowed his street yet.

No one left to call... so I go back out and start attacking the huge snow pile. I was about 1/2 way through it when another neighbor showed up with his humongus truck/plow...

"Want some help?" he asked.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!"

He managed to clear 90% of it away, and then proceeded to do the neighbor behind us. He had just about finished that driveway when he blew a transmission line...

We cleared the rest out of our driveway so we could get to work today (still some clean up needed, but I'll finish that up when I get home from work)

We then took our shovels up to the neighbor behind us, and helped her finish shoveling the last 20-sq foot area.

compared to what Oswego area has gotten - 18" isn't too bad, but it's enough for me

1. Got stuck this morning
tried to brave the roads this morning... less than 1/4 mile down the road, I heard on the radio that the roads I usually take were closed due to snow, stuck trucks and/or rock slides...

so I figure I might as well turn around and go back home.

had an idiot on my butt in a big truck so I needed to continue up the road until I could come to a place where I could safely turn around.

another 3/4-mile there's a side road, I go to turn off, and the car gently slides into a snow bank, the idiot continued on down the road...

I put the car into reverse and spin the wheels.. stuck

flip on the emergency lights, put the car in park and I get out to look -- driver's side wasn't bad, passenger side wheel was buried, plus a big pile of snow up under the car

stupid me never put the extra shovel in the trunk... so we improvise - I get out the big honking snow/ice scrapper with a big blade on it and start digging out the wheels

after about 45minutes, 3 cars going by without stopping, and one other car did offer help but didn't know what they could do - thanks for stopping anyways, yes, I have a cell phone and if i can't get out in a few more minutes I'll call for help...

tried digging out a bit more - no luck. On the cell phone, call my partner - I'm stuck, bring a shovel and the bucket of ash (wood ash from wood stove)

I go back to shovling and scooping, got the wheel somewhat free, cleared out the snow from under the front. Back in the car I start turning the wheels back and forth, and then straighten them out - put the car in reverse and....

there was was some backwards movement, put it into drive and we rock forward an inch or two -- reverse again, YEAAAAAA - some more movement

within a couple of minutes I managed to "rock" my way out of the snow...

got on the cell phone again to call my partner and tell her "nevermind"

no answer - she must be outside clearing off her truck..

I pulled into our driveway just as she was trudging down the walkway with the shovel and ash bucket...

high probability of another snow day....

4. SE Arizona and we actually did have some snow yesterday!
It didn't stick on the ground, though. About 1/10 of an inch of moisture and 1/4 the day before :woohoo: (yea I measure to two decimal points - hundreths of an inch - it's a dry climate)

5. 0 but it's been unseasonably cold
Even 1/2" of snow throws this area into a tailspin

7. maybe 3-4
it went from snow to rain last night, so I'm not really sure. Though hubbie had to take my car today since he couldn't get the jetta out. I still haven't been out yet, the sun is shining, and it's rather blinding.

10. anywhere near Keene?
I lived over the border in a small town called Orange, Ma before moving to PA about 10 years ago - I was about 20 miles south from Keene NH / Brattleboro VT -- so I know the kind of snow you're talking about

11. I'm Northeast of Indianapolis
We have 12-14" on the ground and 3-5' drifts. Yep that's in feet. I'm on my third snow day, which means I will probably be going to school on a Saturday or two :(

This stuff doesn't pack, either (explaing the drifts I guess). No snowman or forts here.

I'm ready for Spring!!!

14. 10 centimetres,
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 12:17 PM by Bassic
that's like 4 inches.

For some reason, the bulk of the storm bypassed us completely.

15. My mother had a foot in her driveway and she paid some high school kids
$30 to clean it..

Originally they asked for $10..

She gave them more.

I am just shocked that she pried open her wallet and gave that much.....it left me shocked...

16. Philly, about 2-3 inches.
It was more of a mess than anything, because there was sleet and freezing rain on top of the snow. The roads were nasty.
