Most of the flavor comes from the 4 ounces of chopped chocolate.

22. I'm figuring out how to store a kerjillion gallons of gumbo.

Today was a snow day so I made gumbo--LOTS of gumbo. It ended up being multiple pots of gumbo. We ate dinner and now I've got containers of the stuff cooling. I MAY just put it outside on the front stoop to freeze tonight--I dunno.

I was commenting in the Lounge earlier that I have decided that the Donner Party was actually a Mom snowed in for a few days with her family and a vat of gumbo.

My work life has been heating up. I just was handed an assignment of about 30 rural appraisals to do for a market study and that is ALWAYS fun. The trick is to find rural parcels that have no FARM ground and no FARM buildings. Additionally, they can't have sold or been the subject of any government valuation work for the previous three years. Usually, it takes longer to ID the subjects than to do the actual appraisal work on them. I'm hoping to get that wrapped up by Mid March.

The saving grace for government work is I don't have to actually go out and measure anything. The only inspection I do is to visit the site and verify exterior condition (and even that isn't required by statute!) I'm ok with that, if you want the truth. There are more than a few places in the county that I'd not feel safe going inside. We do NOT set foot in a house unless we have another government person along both for safety and as a protection for liability.

With what I've been seeing and hearing about the market up in Michigan, I do not envy you at all with this one. I was just talking to a guy with one of the plat map companies the other day and he was telling me about his work up around the Saginaw area. It didn't sound good, and from what he said, the rest of Michigan is not in much better shape.

He DID mention that Ann Arbour was still doing ok, however. Heck of a long way to go for comps just to meet that contract price, isn't it? ;)

Rationally thinking - she should be okay - but there is a part of me that will be on "alert" until she has her power (and heat) back up OR gets situated into a warm place.
