I'm trying not to say, "I told you so, dumbass."
My husband is only 28, and after having to go to the doctor due to chest and arm pains last week (dr thought he "ripped some cartilage"), his bloodwork came back, and he has to go on Lipitor. His cholesterol is about 240, and I have told him repeatedly that he'd better start watching his diet. His dad (who is trim and fit) had a quadruple bypass a year or two ago, and heart disease is rampant throughout his family.
He's gonna keel over by the time he's forty, I swear.
:banghead:
It's so pointless to nag people when they don't want to change on their own accord, though.

1. His doctor may know this
Then again, he/she may not. If he's on Lipitor, he also needs to take Coenzyme-Q10. Lipitor diminishes some heart function; Co-Q10 counters that.

6. I'll tell him to ask about that. Thanks. He has to go to the Heart Center
for a stress test in a week or so, so he should be communicating with his Dr, further.

8.  I nag a few times, then it's all on him to deal with it.
I'm not his Mother (although I did inform him that I'm telling his parents how bad his cholesterol is, so THEY can nag him).

3. My STBE had two minor heart attacks before he was forty.
We tried every natural means to lower his cholesterol... fat free and meat free diet and lots of exercise. In this manner we got his number down to 260 but that's still way too high. He's been on Lipitor for years and it's probably saved his life. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Please be advised that once he's on the Lipitor he should take it regularly because I read that the "bounceback" effect of missing doses is a very bad thing.

12. His Dad's cholesterol was 360-something when he had surgery,
and he was on a much better diet than my husband is. My husband just doesn't even try, I think. Gah.

19. Well, I do rather fancy myself "The Boss" around here.
But I'm not sure that perception holds true for pretty much anyone but me.

13. I think he would fight through the nausea to eat the crap, anyway.
He routinely eats until he hurts.
I don't understand why he does that.

5. Maybe he's a type one personality
Maybe he wants to live balls to the walls no matter what the consequences because it's his life and he's gonna live it the way he wants. Take it easy on him ok, or I'll throw bacon at your house.
:hi:

7. He's only 28?
Wow! I would think cholesterol of 240 would make him sit up and take notice, though.

It sounds silly, but encourage him to eat oatmeal or even Cheerios every day.

9. a friend of mine, and my mom, both took Lipitor...
...and also needed to stock up on Beano. Apparently it makes some people rather gassy. I hope your husband doesn't have that side effect, but you might want to buy some air freshener...

10. Holy shit.
:scared:

Get him to take care of himself. Nag until either his or your body parts start dropping off, but nag.

I have to nag myself to exercise (my diet is fine but the rest of me isn't).

11. He doesn't need to watch his diet.
He needs to either completely reinvent his diet, or invest in a really kickin' insurance plan to take care of you and the kids.

PS If his doctor's not treating this as a REALLY REALLY BIG DEAL, get him to one who will. Because you're absolutely right, he's on a path to an early end, and you've got better things to do than be a pretty young widow with three kids at home.

18. No kidding!
I know it's partly heredity, but seriously- I cook and stock the household food, and my cholesterol was 73, the last time I had it checked, so it's not like I'm stocking the house with crappy food; he's making BAD choices, and he needs to STOP going out and eating crap for lunch. He nagged the shit out of me to quit smoking (which I did) but he's killing himself with his eating habits. Cripes.
