I have the most accursed luck with headphones! (the nib broke off and stuck in the headphone jack)
Normally my headphones wear out within a couple of months or so after I buy them, in a fairly traditional manner of one ear dying before the other, or the wire getting frayed. It's annoying, but I just go out and buy another pair.

With this pair, I thought I'd got lucky. They lasted about six month, with great sound, and neither ear died. Just now I got back from work (I take my laptop and headphones to work with me) to find that when I last unplugged them, the very tip of the headphone nib broke off and got stuck down in the headphone jack. I can't get it out. I have to use a USB adapter to plug in my speakers. x( Maybe the Apple store can fix it. Or maybe I can get it out with pair of tweezers. :banghead:

*sighs resignedly*

1. What kind of headphones?
Sounds like you just buy cheap shit. Spring for an actual decent pair.

2. Yeah, they're usually pretty cheap.
Generic Radio Shack stuff. I have too much on my "stuff to get" list right now to afford a good pair of headphones, though. Plus, I wouldn't want to curse a good pair with my luck. :P

3. Needle nose pliers will work.
Been there, done that.

The one-side-going-dead quickly makes me think you're buying Sony. Why? Because that happens to me. I won't buy expensive headphones because I beat the crap out of them at the gym, on my bike, etc.

4. I don't remember the brands I bought.
These ones are (were) Sony, but the ears didn't die. Some of the others might have been Sony.

Think needle nose pliers will do the trick? Now to find a pair. The needlest-nosed pliers I have aren't small enough to fit in there.

5. Got an eyeglasses repair kit?
The tiny screwdriver should fit into the hole. Torque it outta there.

You could also take it to a jeweler. They have tiny little kick-ass tools.

6. I do have a couple of tiny screwdrivers.
I just don't know that there's enough space in the hole to get around since it broke off at the wide part right after the second band on the headphones.

Hehe...that'd be funny, to take my laptop into a jewelers. :P
