anyone heard of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?
My sister got me one of their albums about 6-7 years ago saying they were huge in Israel (where most of my family lives). I know they had a new album, but their old one is fantastic.

Anyone else have an opinion on them? I didn't think they're most recent hit song was all that... (they are on the Leonard Cohen tribute album called "I'm Your Fan")

5. If you like that go further back and find the Birthday Party
stuff. I haven't heard recent Cave stuff but heard it kind of sucks. Its all taste. I liked the Birthday party but the stuff I heard was poorly recorded and so heavy on the Aussie accent it took awhile to appreciate.

decent resource

Cave's dark trubador schtick gets a little tiresome.

The Birthday Party was a a magnificent band!

7. His recent stuff has been so-so, but his older stuff rocks!
They're still good live, too. He's in his mid-40s, skinny as a rail and a chain-smoker, but he can still belt it out. (If you ever have a chance to see them do "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" in the Chicago Theater, where the walls really do seem to bleed, do so.)

8. yes
They are from Australia and have been around for over 25 years. Nick Cave met Mick Harvey in high school and formed Boys Next Door which later became The Birthday Party upon moving to London. They moved to Berlin and disbanded and the Bad Seeds were formed shortly thereafter putting out their first album in 1984. Cave lived in Brazil awhile and is now back in London.

Nick Cave and Bad Seeds albums include:

From Her To Eternity (1984)
The Firstborn Is Dead (1985)
Kicking Against the Pricks (1986)
Your Funeral, My Trial (1986)
Tender Prey (1988)
The Good Son (1990)
Henry's Dream (1992)
Live Seeds (1993)
Let Love In (1994)
Murder Ballads (1996)
The Boatman's Call (1997)
The Best Of (1998)
No More Shall We Part (2001)
Nocturama (2003)

Favourite records -
The Good Son
Henry's Dream
Let Love In
Murder Ballads
The Boatman's Call

the last two have been pretty good. The most recent, Nocturama had a storming 15 minute song, 'Babe I'm on Fire' on it. Bloody good.

13. The "Babe, I'm on Fire" video is amazingly good.
But "Tender Prey" is the best album if you want a good starting point.

12. yes
Can't say I'm very familiar with albums from last ten years but played a lot of Tender Prey album back in college days and The Mercy Seat remains an essential classic.

Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
Anyway I'm yearning to be done with all this weighing up of truth An
eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth And anyway I told the truth And
I'm not afraid to die
In heaven his throne is made of gold
And the Ark of his Testament is stone
A throne from which I'm told all nations do unfold
Down here I'm made of the wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away

Unfortunately, KCDem wants to have Nick Cave's love-child. And Aragorn's. But that's another story.
