31 Pound Cat Looking For A New Home (Pic) - Boston DUers YOU Can Adopt!!

<snip>

ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- An overweight kitty was abandoned by his owners, and now, he needs someone new to help him loose a little weight.

Meet Albertus Magnus. That's Latin for "Fat Albert."

He weighs in at 31.5 pounds, which is about double what he should weigh.

Workers at the animal shelter says he's a sweet cat. He just needs a little help.

"They all love him here," said Kathy Pereira of Attleboro Animal Control. "It's just that we know he needs some help with his weight, so somebody that can really exercise him and get his weight down."

Albertus has been on a strict diet, since arriving at the shelter.

The special food is a little more expensive, but it's important.

The extra weight is just as bad for cats as it is for humans.

1. I hope someone adopts him.
:(

Damn the person who let him get that heavy and then abandoned him. x(

Two of my three cats are overweight, but not nearly to that extent, and I worry about their weight every day. I can't imagine giving up my beasties.

8. OK, I don't get 'diet food' for pets.
Unless the cat lives outside and is a PRODIGIOUS hunter, he gets WHAT YOU GIVE HIM.

It's pretty simple to figure out how many calories he needs and limit him to that.
Empty bowl?
Come back tomorrow, bud.
jeez

18. The better-quality pet food companies generally formulate their
low-cal foods by reducing the fat content and increasing the fiber content to allow the animal to feel filled-up and satisified at a reduced caloric-intake.

10. I tried to adopt a dog once that was just as overweight
Poor thing could barely walk the length of the street and back. He was so overweight he had dimples on his hips. He felt bad and was grumpy. There were some major problems with the other animals here so he didn't stay. I've always wondered what happened to him.

He was a King Charles and the rescue group told me that the nanny had surrendered him. Apparently his previous owners were getting a divorce and his custody was a matter of some significant dispute. Even so they had chained him in the yard with food and water and no exercise for months. So he got morbidly obese. Those same owners had paid nearly $4,000 at a charity auction to acquire him.

13. Oh, that sweet boy looks just like my Frankie!
I *LOVE* it when they sleep like that! It makes my heart break into a million pieces. Followed, of course, by the urge to squeeze that chubby belly.

16. He is an absolute doll, sleeping on my left arm as I type this
he occupies the left side of my desk since day one. He lays across my arm so I can barely type. He enjoys his fat little head bouncing around I guess.
