Post some good dance music! (any era)
Time to loosen up after the SOTU b.s.

If anyone has any good techno, trance, hip-house, whatever, PLEASE post it.

C'mon Ride a Train - Quad City DJ's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ6OP5UBbGY

Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it, woo woo
Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it, woo woo

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
I think I can, I think I can
I think I can, I think I can

Way deep down south, well we play this game
It's them Quad City D.J.'s and you,
We call it "the train"
So if you wanna ride your thing
Just come on down the train
We gonna rock, ooh, Lord, just jump aboard, baby
So get your next of kin, your sister and your friend
Pack it up now, choo choo, ride on this, choo choo
And, boo, you need to stop faking, and come on with me
I wanna take you home with me, to be alone with me
And I can see you wanna hide it, come on, just divide it
And please don't knock it, until you ride it
So to all of you girls, you know, I'm calling your name
Michelle, Tamika and Tanya
Wanna ride this train, ride out now

If you feel like dancing, well come on, it's up to you
We got the sound to keep you getting down, down
The train is coming through

I can smell them tranquil breezes from a mile away
Graduated from Boone up to Alize
Baby, you looking tough to death
Got your weave done right, it's on so tight
Now it's on tonight, yeah, yeah
Right about now it's about that time for me to holler
Girl, I wanna waller in the back of my Impala
Woo, don't need no tickets for this thing
Just jump on in, let me hit them switches on the train
And it ain't no thing, it's all the same
Get on the train tracks
Here we go, so get on the floor
And put a hump in your back
So pack your bags, come on, get ready, say what?
We're coming through your town
Move your arm up and down
And make that choo choo sound, like this

Ride that choo choo, woo woo...

Come on it's the choo choo, woo woo
Come on it's the choo choo train

74. hysterical youtube comments
I just had to post this trance vs tecno debate. I enjoy the comments at youtube almost as much as the video. Technically you should start at the bottom and read up but either way it's hilarious.

Dionysian1 (1 day ago)
"Yeah, i agree with xafil, cant you fuckers just sit down and enjoy some music without arguing over the stupidest fucking detail. Do you go to youtube to watch videos or argue???"

subzerofrezzy (2 days ago)
"Screw you i still say techno."

atrodagen (2 days ago)
"yes..."

skizzo3 (3 days ago)
"Its fucking trance! darude is a trance artist! end of!"

skizzo3 (3 days ago)
"Most trance songs have no lyrics, its trance people, ask any dance specialist!"

xafil (3 days ago)
"It's music..enjoy it and be quiet."

shwilly (3 days ago)
"This guy must have been like "damn, I got this funny sounding bleep-thingy: I think I'll make a song which features it, and maybe a lame video so people who don't like techno -or trance, whatever- might actually like it". And then he put in some lesbians. Can't believe I actually like this shit..."

146. isn't it? Check THIS out:
here is a Xena video someone made on youtube to it. The video quality is poor but this is without a doubt the best fanvid I have EVER seen on here, it's brilliant. I've only tried to make a video once, and getting them sychronized with the music and editing the clips is really, really hard, and for the amount of clips in this video it's amazing to me someone would have this kind of patience and perfectionism. This video is much, much better than the official song video:

Xena, to Sandstorm by Darude
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBG5bUnmcE4

this person also did a kick-ass one to Fighter, by Christina Aguilera:

me right back to my teenage years for some reason. I loved that the female singers had a dignity in their singing that the pop stars today don't, must be the British influence or something...

that does those beautiful piano runs but I can't find it online anywhere. That and Holloway's tearing it up on the sample of her song made it so different.

edit: and the dancing in that video kicks butt, too. I love watching these dancers, that late 90's early 90's hip-hop dancing was so energetic.

Here is Foxy Brown's "I'll Be" which has amazing dancers in it too

this is a contrast, though from how innocent hip hop used to be and how sexualized it is now.

119. Scissor Sisters - Lights
No pussyfootin' or that look of surprise
Can't hide the holes in your eyes or cover up that bitter smile
All the birds can see that you're heading south
That mirror deep in your mouth reflects you running on for miles

When you cut the lights out think of me
When you cut the lights out think of all the things you can't see
But are they real?
That face will be revealed

Nobody's callin' that payphone in your mind
I wonder just what they find but that line's busy all the time
I ain't got nothing but your seed on my face
You'll put them babies to waste without your finger in the pie

When you cut the lights out think of me
When you cut the lights out think of all the things you can't see
But are they real?
That face will be revealed

My mama told me one thing I'll remember till I die
The one you want the most will be the one that you defy
The times they're gonna love you
Like stitches in the scar
You can never run from trouble
'Cause there ain't no place that far

When you cut the lights out think of me
When you cut the lights out think of all the things you can't see
But are they real?
That face will be revealed

One of the best songs on that album!

Edited on Fri Jan-26-07 12:33 PM by notawol
Om Numah Shivaya

Jai om numah shivaya

Jai om numah shivaya

Intro
Well everybody would you focus your mind
Search for the truth and you will find
Good spirit and strength from within
That fights against all sin

Jai om numah shivaya

Verse
I shall walk across the land that has been chosen
And I shall climb the mountain so high,
I shall go across the sea and across the ocean
And sing with the bird in the sky,
Its only jah up above man who leads the way
Under whose shadow I abide,
Me say you’re running and you’re running and you’re running away
But from yourself you know you can¹t hide

Jai om numah shivaya

Well everybody would rise and focus your mind
Search for the truth and learn to be kind
Everybody would you fight against the evil you find
Tell you people about the ’religion of your mind¹

Jai om numah shivaya

Verse 2
He who dwells in the secret place of the most high
Shall abide under the shadow of the almighty i
Everyday I rise...rise up above their lies
But still them want fight I and i
Everyday I rise ...rise with my spirits well high
Ca you know jah jah guide I and i

Jai om numah shivaya

144. amazing
I am getting more and more interested in this period of hip-hop, early to mid-eighties before it got gimmick-ized into 'gangsta rap'. I love Ani Difranco's description of it and folk music in this quote:

DiFranco herself noted that "folk music is not an acoustic guitar--that's not where the heart of it is. I use the word 'folk' in reference to punk music and rap music. It's an attitude, it's an awareness of one's heritage, and it's a community. It's subcorporate music that gives voice to different communities and their struggle against authority."<8>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ani_DiFranco

Amen to that, and all that creativity coming out of a culture of struggle and poverty, it's pretty amazing. This was from that period where it was totally self-invented by the Black community and still 'sub-corporate' like Difranco says.

The Egyptian lover song seems vaguely familiar, like it's from a Rave or something. So much good music, so little time.

253. You're welcome...
DiscoVisionSF has also posted the anthem "San Francisco" by the Village People. Looking at those reminded me so much of the spirit of S.F. in the late '70's and very early '80's. And what a shock and crushing blow the AIDS crisis was to the community. I lost fifteen friends and acquaintances to AIDS. Since the disease was new, they didn't have the option of prevention. Makes me want to b**ch slap kids who choose to have unprotected sex....x(

258. I know.
I had a friend who lived in San Fran in the eighties and one day he got out his old photo album and started showing me the photos and it was so sad because half to three quarters of the men in there had passed away from AIDS. It was just a bad trip and he ended up closing it and putting it away. It's why I will forever despise Ronald Reagan because of how he handled the AIDs crisis, despite all the other harm he did that one stands out as his worst crime.

You only take heat when you need to
You only take heat (E) when you need to
And you need to

Come let me brief you
And let you see where greed leads to
And you need to

Inspire the love inside your people
Our people, equal
For teens oh knows people, no spyads
No more hellfires and please no more gunfire

Dance 4 Life (4x)

Quench we meable in thirst
Put them first
And when the floodgates burst
Come inside and we'll keep you strong

We protect the children of this new dawn
We're properly skilled and we fear no storm
And what we're building will persevere long
After the wicked ‘em disappear

Justice, dues and rights gone clear
And the and the youth we have will start this year
And the youth we have will start this year

Dance 4 Life (12x)

232. I just thought of another one...PM Dawn, Set Adrift on Memory Bliss
wow, I love this sound...takes me back so fast. I have to post the lyrics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUUfTR4BPSk

The camera pans the cocktail glass,
Behind a blind of plastic plants;
I found the lady with the fat diamond ring.
Then you know I can't remember a damn thing.
I think its one of those de ja vu things,
Or a dream thats tryin' to tell me something.
Or will I ever stop thinkin' about it.
I dont know, I doubt it.
Subterranean by design,
I wonder what I would find if I met you,
Let my eyes caress you,
Until I meet the thought of misses princess who?
Often wonder what makes her work.
I guess I'll leave that question to the experts,
Assuming that there are some out there.
They're probably alone, solitaire.
I can remember when I caught up
With a pastime intimate friend.
She said, bet you're probably gonna say I look lovely,
But you probably don't think nothin' of me.
She was right, though, I can't lie.
Shes just one of those corners in my mind,
And I just put her right back with the rest.
Thats the way it goes, I guess.

Baby you send me
Set adrift on memory bliss of you

Careless whisper from a careless man,
A neutron dance for a neutron fan;
Marionette strings are dangerous things,
I thought of all the trouble they bring.
An eye for an eye, a spy for a spy,
Rubber bands expand in a frustrating sigh.
Tell me that she's not dreaming.
She's got an ace in the hole,
It doesnt have meaning.
Reality used to be a friend of mine,
cause complete control, I dont take too kind.
Christina applegate, you gotta put me on.
Guess whose piece of the cake is jack gone?
She broke her wishbone and wished for a sign.
I told her whispers in my heart were fine.
What did she think she could do?
I feel for her, I really do.
And I stared at the ring finger on her hand,
I wanted her to be a big pm dawn fan,
But I had to put her right back with the rest.
Thats the way it goes, I guess.

Baby you send me...
Set adrift on memory bliss of you

I have to say, they did a great job with the lyrics for such an off the wall topic. :)

I'm a huge Lunachicks fan and something like this is right up their alley, lol. Interesting topic to sing about. She does a great job though. This song is about tampons and pms, it's more thrash but it gets me going the same way a dance song would. Whoever put this video in here must have been squeamish or something because they edited out all the references to what the song is all about; I guess they wanted just to focus on their musicianship. The song is actually about twice this long.

Thanks for posting this, I'd heard of her but not heard anything buy her. It seems current and retro at the same time. Kind of like a techno PJ Harvey or something. I also really like 'Go' by Moby, and the 'Cowgirl' song. "Never come back down" is a great song, too. I like dance songs that are a little harder like this, and I like the rap too, it's great, but my favorite of course is 'Spitfire'.

I thought there would be alot of people around here with knowledge about that.

Early 90's hip-hop is even less popular than that, lol...but it's one of my favorite eras and types of music just because of the dance. I also like techno and trance but I don't know a whole lot about it. That Spitfire song is one of the best things posted in this thread. I love stuff like that. There has also been a lot of funk posted in here, some of the videos from the late 70's are real gems. I've had a lot of fun with this thread. I don't know where all the techno people are, unless they are sleeping during the day and out dancing all night and therefore don't have time to post the music, lol
