My house is infested with FLYS!
I don't have bug killer, (don't like it) so I have been running around with Febreeze Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer shooting at them. They aren't dying! My garage looks like a damn fly factory! And of course I think they come in when I open the door which is often beau-se I throw my recyclables right out there. Last night I was shooting around the garage like a mad women with window cleaner. I hope my car is not damaged by ammonia. And then I think that flys lay eggs and they hatch into that larvae that I can't remember the name of. Or maybe there was a bunch of that larvae that I didn't see and they are all hatching now! EEEEUUUUWWWWWWW.

Where are they coming from? I feel like I am in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

4. You have to get rid of whatever they're breeding on
Likely something died in your garage, or perhaps somebody left food out there.

Once you get rid of wherever they're breeding the problem will go away fast- flies aren't precisely renowned for their longevity. The real question- why do they insist on dying noisily on the window sill?

9. The garbage is out there but I try to keep the lid on it. But maybe there
is a towel in the laundry that has cat pee on it. I'm babysitting an old cat and she has been peeing around the house. I hope she didn't find a place to pee in the garage that I don't know about.

I'm going to throw a bunch of stuff in the laundry and see what happens.

This is so gross.

10. Cat pee wouldn't breed flies
It's almost certainly food, poo or something dead.

13. It just occurred to me that while I used to only feed dry food to the animals now
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 09:41 PM by Maraya1969
that I have my older senior pet, Duke I have been putting out wet food and he doesn't always eat it all so I have to keep putting in back in the refrigerator and then out again. Also the cat that I am baby sitting wants wet food so I do the same for her. I am always picking up food that hasn't been eaten and putting it back in the fridge.

Also I do rinse out the cans before I put them in the recyclable bin but the dog food cans don't rinse easy at all. The only way to get all the food that is stuck to the sides is to wash them. :(

So now I just took a can and got the label off and stuck it in the dishwasher!

I really am going to try to get little easy to chew DRY food for both of them. Duke will eat bones and biscuits so why can't he eat dry food? And I was trying to get Ginger to gain weight by giving her wet food but she can eat the dry too.

So the laundry is now going and I sprayed water with soap, (can't remember who gave me that tip here...sorry) all over the garage. Tomorrow I think I'll get the car out and try to clean it. At least I will clean the garbage cans and the recycle bin.

18. Most pet food shouldn't be kept refrigerated longer than 72 hours
And if once out, then rerigerate within an hour of being put out for feeding. Longer than that and it starts becoming rancid.

Hard to be frugal with the pet food, but better fresh, or once more offered before tossing.

Good luck in knocking out your current fly infestation! :hi:

7. Try spraying...
1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid in one cup of water. It works great.

14. I just did that. I had an old bottle of natural bug killer for the garden so I
washed it out and put the dish washing liquid and water in it and sprayed it all over the garage. Thanks for the tip. I'm going to use it on my garden too since I heard that it works there too.

11. Look at the bright side.
You probably have the world's freshest-smelling flies. That Febreeze will give your flies the aroma of an alpine glade.

15. I had an infestation
of fruit flies earlier this year. (nothing dead or rotting, just lots of fruit hanging about)

I vacuumed them up and got rid of them that way. (that's my answer to every bug problem) I don't know if it'll work with your problem.

I must have looked like a nut to anyone looking in my kitchen window, vacuuming the air.

17. I've done that! In the summer I've gotten these Little bugs and sometimes and there are
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 11:35 PM by Maraya1969
hundreds of them! The funny thing is someone gave me this powerful professional vacuum that straps on you back so you look like you are going to jettison off into the air. So I have this thing on my back and am holding the rubber nozzle jabbing and thrusting and sucking the little bastards right out of the air!

I never thought what the neighbors would think until now. Wow we both much have looked like nuts. Next time I'll put on a gas mask and give them a real show! :)
