Poll question: Minnesota Ice Palace
Is this a proper way to spend state money, considering we're still in a deficit?

1. i voted yes, even tho I'm not 100% sure what it is
but it sounds artsy (as opposed to practical) and lemme tell you, there are always SERIOUS causes that need money, but art and culture need money too (can I call that culture?) and so does fun.

3. Point taken - and info on the new Palace!
New ice palace for 2004 design: (looks like a bunch o' beach houses rather than a palace)

1992 design:

The 1986 Palace was the best, IMHO:

I wish I could time travel to 1986 because I could take a photo or few of the palace without making it look like a grainy mess (the '92 pics I found were equally grainy, sigh...), but if I could get close enough to the new version I might take some snapshots... it's located across from the Xcel Energy center. An utterly stupid place for it, there'll be traffic for miles. x( Lake Phalen seemed to be a better place, as it was in '86...

History of the ice palace:

2. Hey...100% in favor....
1 vote cast. I hope I'm the only voter in the 2004 election.

I'm a St Paul resdident.

Some will see this event as frivalous. There is a very valid argument against the spending of ANY commonwealth funds on these types of events.

I will argue that there is a need to feed the spirit and moral of communities especially in climates such as ours. As long as a community event is available to ALL members of the community (non-descriminitory), I'll vote for it. Besides, I like it.

5. Get used to the waste of state funds, HypnoToad.

Cause they're gonna build three new stadiums this year for the Vikings, Twins and Gophers this year. While I understand the Metrodump is a piece of shit, I think there are lots of other ways that these facilities could be funded instead of essentially sticking up the citizens at gunpoint. And you know they'll try to find a way to pin it on the taxpayer instead of using creative funding ideas like hotel/rental car taxes, private bonds, etc.

6. I said yes, because I love it
That's one of the earliest things I can remember, going to the ice palace. I must've been about three or so.
