(to those who don't know... no, it's not just a gag on a souvenir t-shirt from whereever... but no, they obviously don't serve roadkill)

On a roadtrip in '92, i had occasion to pass through that way, and actually stopped there with my friends for lunch. WWe all cracking up at the weird taxidermy decorating the place.

but I did see one of my customers wearing one of the Road Kill Cafe shirts the other day. It looked pretty new, too.

Back in about 1995, I picked up a box of Roadkill Helper at a truck stop in Villa Rica, Georgia. It was funny as hell! Looked just like a hamburger helper box, had a package of noodles and some seasoning inside... and the instructions were: Just add road kill. If memory serves me correctly, the back of the box had tips on selecting and determining what "good, fresh road kill" was.

91. I've been to a "Road Kill Cafe" off Hwy 40 just west of Flagstaff AZ.

Good food, funny menu. I asked our server and he said that the cafe had been around for a "long time", though he had only worked there a short while.
The sold tee-shirts, and hoodies etc. Can't remember the name of the town though.

This is an urban raptor. Behind it were high rise office buildings. I need to play with the photo in Elements to try an improve it.

29. I should probably try to brighten it up.

As I was about to lighten the exposure, it flew off.

And I think I've seen it before. One morning riding to work along the Reflectiong Pool, a raptor glided right in front of me, then swooped to the right after a squirrel. About a foot off the ground the squirrel wriggled loose. The bird, flapped away muttering curses before perching on a tree limb.

Another evening outside my old flat, I'm sure I saw a raptor around the dumpsters. Hunting rats, I guess.

Perhaps it's my totem.

the best of times to the worst of times pretty fast...She does refer to Bush as "that drug fiend".....

She grew up in rural Tennessee, family of sharecroppers, picked cotton, married my Grandfather, gave birth to my Mom, moved to Gary Indiana. My Grandfather ran booze for Al Capone and was a bookie, so my Grandmother tells us stories of cops banging at the door and her leaving via the fire escape.....

She told me, in 1996, that she thought the country was in as good a shape as she had ever seen it. Now....well....of course, she's one of the old line Democrats, New Dealer, won World War II. My Mom worked for NASA, so she took some extra pride in the Apollo program.

And she quit smoking.......at age 76.

Side note, she was married to both my Maternal as well as my Paternal Grandfathers. My Mom's Dad died in 1966 and my Dad's folks divorced in 1967. In 1970, she married my Dad's Dad. It made my Parents' divorce a little more awkward than it could have been......
