Red wine, pink cheeks

2002 Stratford Napa County Cabernet. It's one of those bizarre, stumbled-on-by-accident wines--made by a vintner who sells primarily to restaurants, so it's not one you'd see on the store shelves. This one is from cabernet lots from the Stag's Leap and Yountville areas, and DAMN is it good. It's been awhile since I opened a really good bottle (no special reason tonight, just felt like it). I'm so glad I did.

1. Oooh --- sounds good for a chilly evening.
We're drinking a Thomas Coyne Mourvedre from the Livermore Valley --full bodied but young.

2. Livermore produces some outstanding wines.
I'm partial to Concannon's petite sirahs, but there are many from that area that are wonderful. Totally underrated region.

3. Yes, it's like Napa 30 years ago - small wineries where the vintner/owners work the tasting rooms.
LVC and Eckert are two other wineries we favor in that area.
