Can't one still "have" a life? Afterall, it would be hard for someone who "has had a life" to actually talk about it.

7. Apparently I don't
When I was in college and grad school my family kept telling me I didn't understand the real world and didn't have a life. When I moved halfway across the country I was told I didn't understand the real world and didn't have a life. When I married a woman from the other side of the world I was told I did not understand the way the real world worked and didn't have a life. Every job I have ever held is so outside of their experience that they told me I did not understand the real world and didn't have a life.

I have a life all right. It is the one I chose, not the one that was chosen for me.
