Top of Runyon Canyon, 8:50 a.m., 1/7/07
This is one HELL of a hike (think "vertical"), but the reward at the top is worth it--killer views of the LA basin. It's really clear today because of the insane winds we've been having, but I was up too early for the marine layer to have burned off (no, the haze you see is NOT smog). A couple of hours from now, it should be stunning.

Looking west, to Century City and the ocean:

Looking east, to downtown:

1. Isn't it great to have such a view?
Worth the climb.

And for those who don't believe you, that IS haze. Smog is a different color.

3. It is--I'm VERY fortunate.
The trailhead (at the bottom) is about 4 blocks from my apartment, so it's an easy walk. Well, relatively easy--the walk just to get to the trail is pretty steep, but it's an awesome workout.

4. I love Runyon Canyon!
Oooh, that makes me want to go for a hike.

You're right about the lack of smog...that's the good part of wind/cold. Hmm. Perhaps I should go up there later today and get a "post-marine layer" picture. :)

5. It's a GREAT day for it.
Not too hot, not too cold--and the trail was already crowded at 8:30! Lots of cute pups, though. As much as that trail kicks my ass, it's really a blast.

I gotta go get mine done, this sitting around feeling useless when there is plenty to be done is for the birds!

12. I peaked early today
Since I got back from the workout I have done exactly NOTHING.

Unless you count watching The OC as doing something...which, let's be honest...definitely wouldn't be classified as anything good.

13. Union Station's not tall enough
to be in those pics.

Runyon Canyon's a good 10-15 miles away from downtown, so you're only seeing the tall buildings. :)

15. Very nice cityscape!
I just couldn't imagine having all that beautiful scenery around me. I live in plains of north Texas.

17. I grew up in Dallas, so I know what you mean.
One of the things I love most about LA is the mix of urban landscape with really rugged wild spaces that are smack in the middle of the city. I live in Hollywood, and this is just blocks from my apartment.
