How long do you keep your xmas tree up after xmas day is over?
As a kid, I always begged mum and dad to keep it up for weeks on end (by mid-January it went down anyway.)

I'd mine put up in early November and I put it up just to do something to take my mind away from reality.

I just took it down.

When did you put yours up, is it still up, and most of all when do you plan on taking it down?

(the tree only, the outside lights, as we all know, always stay up 24/7/365  )

1. No outside lights here...
 We usually put up holly garland on the mailbox post and light posts and a wreath on the door. But there are people nearby that leave their freakin' lights up perpetually. :P

My husband likes putting the tree up the day after Thanksgiving and taking it down New Year's Eve. I like putting the tree up when I feel like it (which is usually about one to two weeks before Christmas) and taking it down the day after Christmas. It's still up, so Hubby's gonna win this one.

2. The tree is still up here
My sister and BIL have a New Year's party every year, and they always leave their tree up until after that.

3. We celebrate Christmas 2X, the second time is a week after
the first so the tree usually comes down on New Year's Day.

4. It'll come down Jan 1.
I used to take them down earlier, but the artificial tree seems safe enough to wait a week. The real trees seemed like a fire hazard.

9. I wear Christmas themed jewelry until 12th night too.
Every year, at least one stranger points out that Christmas is over and I tell him/her that it isn't over until the Epiphany. When the stranger returns a blank stare, I say, "Do you know the twelve days of Christmas song? That's what it's about."

19. I play my Christmas music until 12th night as well.
I find it kind of sad how much cultural heritage has been lost in modern times.

I remember in high school having a SERIOUS argument with a friend of mine who INSISTED the 12 days of Christmas were BEFORE Dec. 25th.

12. It stays up until Christmas is over, January 6. Christmas is 12 days long.
Though I really like the tree, and it's artificial, so mine last year stayed up until about Ash Wednesday.

14. One Year ...
...we kept our Christmas tree up until after Easter. We were so busy just surviving, we just couldn't get around to taking it down. By the time we did take it down, there was hanging on it some Valentine Hearts, paper Easter Eggs with sparklies, some cheeps (pink bunnies AND the chickies), a couple of MLK silhouettes the kids made in school, and even our cat's catnip mouse stash neatly "buried" under it..

We joked about just keeping up for a Mother's Day Tree, Father's Day Tree, a 4th of July Tree, and a Labor Day Tree. WE actually considered keeping it up until we could just take off all those " non-Christmas" decorations and not have to go through the agony of putting another one up all over again. The funniest part IMO was that originally it was a "Charlie Brown Tree" and it stayed green until one day we had to move it, and every single needle fell off in a tidy pile all around it leaving the ornaments sitting on bare branches.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

27. Grrrrrrrr!
I'm sick of looking at it!

But it will be up until Jan 6, Epiphany

blah blah blah

I want a palm tree that I can just take the decorations off and leave up all year long until it grows through the ceiling and then put in a dome skylight over the top so it can keep growing.

Didn't feel like it today. It's yucky outside and I need to move the car to get at the boxes for the Xmas junk. Plus I'm lazy.

23. In the first years of our marriage, until it became a fire hazard!
The Christmas tree filled up a sparsely furnished living room. The bigger the tree the better.

Now, I put the tree up about a week after Thanksgiving and take it down the first week of January.
:)

24. Around February 1st, I threaten to take the tree down myself
if Mr GoG doesn't.

He doesn't like the way I pack things up; so he's pretty quick about getting the job done when I tell him that.

33. the correct date is jan. 6, the kings don't arrive until epiphany
Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 04:40 PM by pitohui
the classic manger scene w. the three kings of different cultures and colors delivering the gifts to baby jesus is said to have occurred on the 12th day of christmas

we rush too soon to get the tree up, then tire of it and rush too soon to take it down

it stays up here until jan. 6

then it's carnival season

i have seen artificial xmas trees in recent years transformed into "mardi gras" trees on that date -- not that there is any such tradition as the mardi gras tree, but if not why not

my trees are potted, not artificial, and i'm considering some mardi gras ornaments this year just for fun

but not until jan. 6!

i agree fire hazard is a legitimate concern, when i did use cut live trees, i always put them up quite late in december, once as late as christmas eve, so to be able to provide safely for the entire 12 days of xmas
