Mike Evans of "The Jeffersons" has died

(TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif.) - The actor who played Lionel Jefferson on "The Jeffersons" and "All in the Family" has died.

His niece says Mike http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=amusement&id=4874372Evans died of throat cancer last week at his mother's home in Twentynine Palms, California. He was 57.

Evans started playing Lionel in "All in the Family" and he kept the role for the spinoff, "The Jeffersons" -- though he was replaced by another actor for part of that run.

Evans also co-created and wrote for "Good Times."

"All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" were great (especially season 1 of "The Jeffersons" before CBS had its way with the show)

He also co-created "Good Times" and left when CBS started having its way with Jimmie "One-Liner" Walker too...)
