Johnny Cash is the King
Edited on Thu Jan-01-04 05:32 PM by WillyBrandt
I discovered Johnny for the first time a few days ago. I boug--er, managed to acquire his two albums from Folsom Prison and San Quenten.

I couldn't believe I hadn't heard this before! I'm not a country fan--though I like the ones everyone else likes, such as Devil Goes down to Georgia, or the Gambler--but this is music that I'd never heard. Cocaine Blues is fantastic, likewise 25 minutes to go.

I recently managed to acquire the tracks on The Man Comes Around, where he covers Hurt by NIN, and a bunch of other songs. Fantastic.

This is almost as good as the Roomba. But still, fantastic.

1. It always amazes me that you can find enjoyable music in almost any genre
Makes my wallet hurt a little sometimes, though. :)

2. I found 'Folsom Prison' at a flea market for $2. Used vinyl is a steal
compared to buying CD's.:-)

3. Welcome to the JC fan club.
I don't have much use for most of what passes for country music these days, but Johnny Cash is the Man as far as I am concerned.

My sister got me "The Essential Johnny Cash 1955 - 1983" for Christmas and it rocks.

5. JC kicks a**
You should pick up 'Unchained' the album he did with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, produced by Rick Rubin. Outstanding.

6. one of a kind
Johnny will be thoroughly missed. My dad was a major fan and I grew up listening to country music. I despise country music, but I loved Johnny Cash. I always find his voice, I dunno, soothing perhaps? Easy listening.

7. I heard his version of Neil Young's Heart of Gold
a few days back. His version kicks ass.

If I didn't know better I would swear Neil wrote it for him. I'm looking seriously at buying Unchained now.
