Somewhere I had roasted chestnuts and I liked them, but I don't remember where they came from. Last year about this time I bought some raw at the store and thought to roast them myself. Of course I didn't know what I was doing nor did I seek to find out. I put them in a pan on the stove, turned it up to medium, put a lid on and waited. After I time I took the lid off. They didn't seem any browner nor had they "popped." I decided to turn one over with my finger. When I touched it the friggin thing went off like a grenade. BAM! And blew tiny globs of liquid chestnut all over the kitchen, my face, my hands, my clothes. Stupid, Huh? Took me an hour to clean up the mess.
