Bit breezy up here in the Pacific Northwest....
...not overly fond of being directly downwind from a large tree either. If it comes down my bedroom should break its fall.

1. OK I am officially scared!
Big tree in neighbors front yard came down just now...took out fence and is blocking the road. Lights are flickering and I can see the lightning flashes from power boxes going out. Big tree behind neighbors house will take out my bedroom/bathroom and power if it comes down. It is hangin in there... note to self: fix that threat asap

5. Just a wee bit...
So far news says we have lost 3 people and are having sustained gusts (whatever that means) of 60 mph right now. It is 1:45 AM. I'll bet tomorrow morning is gonna reveal some fairly nasty surprises.

4. I feel ya, I live in Vancouver just north the border we had...
a couple of nights of terrible wind a few days ago. I hear tonight or tomorrow night we are supposed to get more. We also have a tall spruce (or hemlock?) near our house. It's freaky to watch a 60+ foot tree sway about in the wind like it weighed nothing at all.

6. Tree in neighbors yard was a spruce I think.
Smells pretty. I heard it come down in a fairly good gust an hour or so ago. It once stood about 40 feet behind where I am sitting right now. It now blocks the road in front of my place.

8. Question for you
What's going on in Portland? Widespread outages? Damage?

My parents are south of Lake Oswego.

I'll call them when I'm sure they're awake.

9. I think over 300,000 homes were without power at some point

Some homes in the area ended up with trees going into them, and some had shingles blown off.

I'm watching the weather porn on this channel:

11. They answered thephone
so they have power. Only lost it for a few minutes. They seem to be pretty protected down where they are. I understand Beaverton and Hillsborough got hit hard.

14. Sorry have not heard
They will possibly have a tale to tell though. I can report to you that this was the first storm I have ever been in up here that scared me. This was MAINLY due to the direction of the wind and the distinct possibility that a tree would impact my home should it have come down. The tree that DID come down was only about 40 feet away from where I am sittin right now but it went harmlessly through a fence and now blocks a good bit of the road in front of my home. I was here last night typing away when it crashed. I gained a distinct apprehension after that. I do not think my plight was a common one although there were a lot of trees downed and I suspect there has been quite a bit of local property damage.

16. Welcome back SeattleGirl
Somehow I managed to stay up all night right here in the Lounge the whole time. Do you remember anything like that since you have been here? I don't and I (kinda) remember the Columbus Day storm of '63

17. The Inaugural Day storm was pretty bad.
They said that in many ways, this storm was worse, though. Higher winds, etc.

Was just watching the news, and now it's SNOWING in some areas. Grrrrr! Enough with the crappy weather, already!

18. Yeah it got cold outside around 4 this morning.
before that the temp was pretty warm. Folks in the valley below my house have power again, they were out for a few hours at least. I got to watch at least 2 transformers blow...they lit up the sky like lightning strikes but with a creepy blueish color.

21. Just before the transformer here blew, there was a really eery
gust of wind. Sounded like a jet flying very low over the house. Then, boom, there went the transformer.

22. Yeah I heard a lot of those "jet" sounds last night....
...first time ever too. You hear about that sound from hurricane survivors...now I think I have a tiny glimmer of what they went through.

Night SeattleGirl, glad you are safe...I am off to bed finally

23. Lucky you
We've been out since 5:00 pm yesterday up near Shoreline. I did see a couple of crews working on the lines in my neigborhood, so hopefully it will be back up soon.
