Poll question: The PIPE, the PIPE is callllin'!!!
Many musicians have laid down a track about their experiences with Peruvian Marching Powder, some fly endo or that sugar smack. One song (or more) must speak to you.

Here's some of my favorite drug songs, take your pick

If you want to add your own, check out this link:

PS: I've never done ANY illegal drugs. EVER. And that's the truth

6. "Illegal Smile" (John Prine)
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 08:37 PM by Mairead
When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad
Seem like total silence was the only friend I had
Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won
And it was twelve o'clock before I realized
That I was havin' .. no fun

Chorus:
But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun

Last time I checked my bankroll,
It was gettin' thin
Sometimes it seems like the bottom
Is the only place I've been
I Chased a rainbow down a one-way street... dead end
And all my friends turned out to be insurance salesmen

(chorus)

Well, I sat down in my closet with all my overalls
Tryin' to get away
From all the ears inside my walls
I dreamed the police heard
Everything I thought... what then?
Well I went to court
And the judge's name was Hoffman

Ah but fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun
Well done, hot dog bun, my sister's a nun

9. Feed Your Head (Jefferson Airplane - gotta be the best drug song ever)
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 08:52 PM by nu_duer
feed your he-he-he-he-he-he-he-head

here's the whole thing - gotta be the best drug song of em all. (Damn I wish I'd have been old enough for the consciousness-expanding 60s.)

Just Look At These Lyrics

WHITE RABBIT
JEFFERSON AIRPLANE

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all

Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call

And call Alice, when she was just small

When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low

Go ask Alice, I think she'll know

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head

11. "Because I got High, "Because I got High, "Because I got High,
I was gonna clean my room until I got high
I gonna get up and find the broom but then I got high
my room is still messed up and I know why
- cause I got high

I was gonna go to class before I got high
I coulda cheated and I coulda passed but I got high
I am taking it next semester and I know why
- cause I got high

I was gonna go to work but then I got high
I just got a new promotion but I got high
now I'm selling dope and I know why
- cause I got high

I was gonna go to court before I got high
I was gonna pay my child support but then I got high
they took my whole paycheck and I know why
- cause I got high

I wasnt gonna run from the cops but I was high
I was gonna pull right over and stop but I was high
Now I am a paraplegic - because I got high

I was gonna pay my car note until I got high
I was gonna gamble on the boat but then I got high
now the tow truck is pulling away and I know why
- because I got high

I was gonna make love to you but then I got high
I was gonna eat yo pussy too but then I got high
now I'm jacking off and I know why
- cause I got high

I messed up my entire life because I got high
I lost my kids and wife because I got high
now I'm sleeping on the sidewalk and I know why
- cause I got high

I'm gonna stop singing this song because I'm high
I'm singing this whole thing wrong because I'm high
and if I dont sell one copy I know why
- cause I'm high

My alltime favorite!!

17. Along Comes Mary
from 1966, by the Association.

Every time I think that I'm the only one who's lonely
Someone calls on me
And every now and then I spend my time in rhyme and verse
And curse those faults in me

And then along comes Mary
And does she want to give me kicks , and be my steady chick
And give me pick of memories
Or maybe rather gather tales of all the fails and tribulations
No one ever sees

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

When vague desire is the fire in the eyes of chicks
Whose sickness is the games they play
And when the masquerade is played and neighbor folks make jokes
As who is most to blame today

And then along comes Mary
And does she want to set them free, and let them see reality
From where she got her name
And will they struggle much when told that such a tender touch as hers
Will make them not the same

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

And when the morning of the warning's passed, the gassed
And flaccid kids are flung across the stars
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the scars

And then along comes Mary
And does she want to see the stains, the dead remains of all the pains
She left the night before
Or will their waking eyes reflect the lies, and make them
Realize their urgent cry for sight no more

When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

23. I'll bet you and Bundbuster in #5 are talkin bout
Cocaine Blues, sung by Dave Van Ronk:

Link to clip

And may (?) have been written by Luke Jordan:

COCAINE BLUES
(Luke Jordan)

Every time me and my baby go uptown,
Police come and they knock me down.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Yeah, baby, come here quick,
This old cocaine 'bout to make me sick.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Yonder come my baby, dressed in red,
She's got a shotgun, says she's gonna kill me dead.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Early one mornin', half past four,
Cocaine knockin' at my door.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

You take Mary, I'll take Sue,
Ain't no difference 'twixt the two.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Yeah, baby, come here quick,
This old cocaine 'bout to make me sick.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Started down Beall Street and I'm turnin' up Main,
Lookin' for a gal that sells cocaine.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Well, I reached into my pocket, grabbed my poke,
Note in my pocket said, ""No more coke.""
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Cocaine's for horses, not for men,
They tell me it'll kill me, but they won't say when.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

Yeah, baby, come here quick,
This old cocaine 'bout to make me sick.
Cocaine run all 'round my brain.

24. You got it, TP
Dave Van Ronk, early or mid-1960's. When I first heard the song I didn't even know what cocaine was, then read about Freud's "Cocaine Papers", then found myself writing my own Cocaine Papers in the late '70's (endless notes on how you'll change your life and the world if you can only get some sleep; next day they are undecipherable birdcage liners).

26. The more I see the more I do
Me, Jeb, and Georgie financed a junta or two with what we were spending on it when this song came out.

Duran Duran: White Lines (Don't Do It)

Freeze rock freeze rock- white-ooh-white

White lines (vision dreams of passion)
Blowing through my mind
(and all the while I think of you)
Hot cries (a very strange reaction)
told us to unwind
The more I see the more I do
Something like a phenomenon (baby)
Telling your body to come along
Cos white lines blow away
Blow rocket-blow

Rap

Ticket to ride white line highway
Tell all your friends, they can go my way
Pay your toll, sell your soul, pound for pound,
Cost more than gold
The longer you stay, the more you pay,
My white lines go a long way
Either up your nose or through your vein but
Nothing to gain except killing your brain

Chorus

Freeze-rock-freeze-rock (x2)
(Higher baby, get higher baby, get higher baby)
And don't ever come down - free base

Rang dang diger di rang a dang (x2)
Etc.

Pipe line (pure as the driven snow)
Connected to my mind
(and now I'm having fun baby)
Hot cries (it's getting kind of low)
Cause it makes you feel so nice
(I need some one on one baby)
Don't let it blow your mind away (baby)
And go into your little hide away
Cause white lines blow away
Blow-rocket-blow

A million magic crystals, pointed, pure and white
A multi million dollars, almost over night
Twice as sweet as sugar
Twice as bitter as salt
And if you get hooked baby,
It's nobody else's fault so don't do it

Freeze-rock-freeze-rock-freeze-rock etc.
Blow
(Higher baby, get higher baby, get higher baby)
And don't ever come down - free base

Chorus

Don't you get too high
(don't you get too high baby)
Turns you on (you really turn me on and on)
Cause you've got to come down
(my temperature is rising)
When thrill is gone (no I don't want you to go)
A street kid gets arrested going to do some time
He got out three years from now just to
Commit more crime
A business man gets caught with 24 kilos he's
Out on bail and out of jail and
That's the way it goes

Chorus

Cane-sugar-cane-sugar-cane-sugar

Athletes rejected-governers corrected
Gangsters thugs and smugglers are thoroughly respected
The money gets divided, the women get excited
Now I'm broke and it's no joke it's hard as hell
To fight it - don't buy it
