Computer ? My computer clock is SLOOOOOWWWWWW!
My computer is losing about 5 minutes every day. I'm constantly resetting the clock. What's up?

1. My techie...
friend said I had programs that did that to my clock. I use Atomic clock to reset it. However, since the earthquake when my puter flew across the room, it's been behaving beautifully.

2. it means the battery is running low
I had that problem here - losing time. They replaced the battery on it and it is now keeping time perfectly (an IBM ThinkPad).

Oddly enough, my old desktop still keeps perfect time - never lost a minute in 5 years. Hmmm ....

:dem:

4. What brand of computer?
...Also the model...anyway, Take off the case and look at the mother-board. (the big board that holds every chip.
Look for a object about the size of a quarter and shiny.
It will be in some type of holder. That's the battery.
Take it down to walgreens or kmart or whatever and get a new one.
install it and turn on your computer, set the clock right and that's about it.

PS..Unplug the computer first!!

5. Thanks!
I've looked for it but wasn't looking on the motherboard. That's a big help. (Gives me the courage to mess with that thing!)

6. I built this PC myself.
I'm fairly proficient with computers. The motherboard (Gigabyte) is less than one year old and I've never actually experienced a dying battery. I've only noticed this in the last 2 weeks. I downloaded Movielink in that timeframe. Could that be the culprit or is it definitely the battery? Can you really get a new battery at Radio Shack , Wal-Mart, etc?

7. Looks like a watch battery

Usually on the lower portion of the mobo, bottom left or bottom right - be careful removing it - many peeps have accidentally broken the little holder, then you have a new mobo with a battery duct-taped to it.

Yes, you can a new battery at the Shack. Also any halfway decent computer store. Not sure about Wally World, but it's not unlikely.

Yes, it's almost definitely the battery - it will only cost you a buck or so.

After you replace it , you will need to go into the BIOS (look for a message telling you to press a key to get into Setup) and reset the time and date.

8. Do you restart it every day?
Some programs do not release RAM all that well amd it can slow your box WAAAAY down. Try shutting it off and restarting it. I bet THAT fixes it! :)
