I'm going to make a white trash GINGERBREAD house!
this is going to be good.....

put in a broken down fence that's the neighbourhood eyesore...a few mini beer bottles tossed in the "snow", a yappy little dog....

a broken window or two.....

Who says the holidays can't be fun?

Now, will have to get the supplies. :D Get a kit from the store, buy some candy, and I'm on my way!!

P.S. did I also mention the house will be "possessed"?
think beady little candy eyes in the attic. :D

7. Are you modeling after the house where you grew up?
If not, please consider that some of your fellow DUers grew up in that neighborhood eyesore with the broken down fence and a broken window or two, maybe with the beer bottles tossed in the yard by yahoos who threw them out of their car windows because the house sits on a major road and everyone knows it's an eyesore already --- who'd even notice a few beer bottles in that yard.

It may be a fun project for you, but crowing about it here is a bit insensitive.

8. Oh, lighten up...........

NO neighbourhood is free from annoying things going on......it's a joke, something fun to do.
It's okay to have a sense of humour about things, and no, I'm hardly insensitive. :eyes:
And no, I didn't grow up in any kind of house, it was kind of hard for a single mother to be the sole support of two kids AND buy a house in the burbs. But hey, you were expecting somebody rich and pampered?

20. You missed my point.
Note that I only said it was insensitive to crow about it here. I made no assertion that you were rich and pampered, only that if you had lived in a house like that a low income area and show it around to family or friends, people may find it humorous to laugh with you. Posting it on a broad message board runs the risk of people thinking you are laughing at them instead.

It's the kind of posting that isn't funny to some of the DUers who are tired of the white trash label as a way of putting down low income people. You've been around DU for a while so I'm surprised that you haven't noticed this.

21. why would I be insensitive to low income people?
No, I don't think that people would think I'm laughing AT them. I've been around here long enough that I would think that people would know I'm not some elitist snob laughing AT them.

I think white trash has nothing to do with income and EVERYTHING to do about class. Like, you don't have any class if your beer bottles go flying all over the neighbourhood because you neighbour wants you to pick them up.

But this is about gingerbread and poking some fun. Geez. ;)

Cheers.

23. Search on "trailer" and you'll see what I mean.
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 08:08 PM by Gormy Cuss
Seriously. I know that you see it as harmless fun and I pointed it out because I don't think that you're not a snob, but not everyone here would recognize that. You have amplified enough in your other posts that someone who might think you're being an elitist has enough info within the thread to see that it's not your intent.

BTW, beer bottles thrown into the yard by passing cars isn't something I made up and yes, it's not classy at all to expect your neighbors to pick up after you.
:)

12. okay, I'm from Appalachia, let me help you.
first, it needs to be a trailer, not a house. The 'broke-down fence' could be knocked down in several places like my neighbor's fence was because they kept driving over it when they were drunk. Instead of a yappy little dog, how 'bout some pit bulls and chow tied up to trees with ropes or big chains? A couple of 'em humping each other would be even more authentic. Gotta have some tars (tires) laying around in the yard too, and a vehicle at least 30 years old with no wheels up on blocks in the front yard. And ya gotta have the woman standing outside in the front yard with the baby on her hip, squawling for 'pa to come up from the holler and fix the damn toilet that's overflowed again. Here, you can use that Britney pic, lol

15. I'm not knocking any appalachians!!!
I'm actually knocking my own neighbourhood, heck, I'm knocking everybody's neighbourhood. Gingerbread houses are always so prissy, I'm making mine REAL. ;)

Seriously, who doesn't have a neighbour who tosses their beer bottles in your yard, or have a broken down old car sitting in their driveway for years, etc.
