I'm going to make tomalito for tomorrow
they said to bring corn. Huh???? That's a freaking bore. Chevy's puts a scoop of tomalito on the plate -- it's a cross between creamed corn and cornbread. I'm gonna be brave and try to cook and try to do something different. Wish me well -- this is a big step forward for me.

1. You are going to open their minds and thrill their tired
tastebuds when you show up with your tomalito. It sounds really good!

2. Thanks!
I hope so. It's supposed to steam for an hour on the stove -- I've got to figure out the mechanics of that but I'm determined to make it.

3. I've never made it, but in my experience...
when steaming anything, it's better to go with the low heat rather than the high. You can always steam for longer, but removing the burned crust from the bottom of an otherwise magnificent dish can be depressing. :P

4. I found an alternative on the internets to steaming the tomalito
a little web search.... I found the recipe I planned to use and saw that there were comments posted. One wise cook had figured out how to cook it in the microwave. 7 minutes at 30% power then 4 minutes at 100%. It's done and looks great! I can't wait to dig into it. I kept thinking as I mixed it up: I wonder how it would be with a couple of chopped jalapeños tossed in? I'll do some experimenting later. For now, I'm pretty proud of myself. Maybe I can learn to cook!
