1. They are awesome frozen...
especially when they are really REALLY ripe..just throw them in the freezer whole, and once they are frozen slice off the top and scoop out the "innards"...just like sorbet. MMMMMM.

3. That sounds great
I normally pull off the leaves, then slice them in half top to bottom and scoop them out with a spoon, using the skin as a "bowl." This is the same way I eat Kiwi (although no leaves to yank).

Would you believe I'd never eaten persimmons until last year? WTF was I missing!?

5. Do you know the variety?
Some varieties are "astringent" and are absoluetly not to be eaten until they're so ripe they're almost mushy. The only one like that that's generally sold in the US is a Hachiya Persimmon. The non-astringent varieties can be eaten when not fully ripe, and the most common one is a Fuyu Persimmon (pictured).

That sucks about your office however, they're really pretty amazing.

9. that's right...
most people make the mistake of eating the astringent varieties when they are under ripe-and an under ripe persimmon is horrible. They should be mushy and soft..but people seem to think they've spoiled at that point.
When my husband was in the Marines and stationed at Camp Pendelton, we met this lady who grew persimmons on her property, that's how we were introduced to them. She would bake them into this incredible pudding and serve it with brandy sauce..drool.
Anyway, the "persimmon pickings" have been pretty slim since we moved back to Iowa.

10. My husband totally LOVES persimmons and persimmon pudding...
I'm not really into them, but he grew up with persimmon pudding. There is a gas station not far from our house with a persimmon tree in the yard, and my husband has sweet-talked the owners into letting him get the persimmons.

11. I agree with your husband...
A fully ripe persimmon tastes like a pumpkin pie to me.
