Cat mates with dog..has "mixed" litter (wtf!!)

Brazilian student Cassia Aparecida de Souza, 18, holds her cat Mimi together with what Cassia claims are Mimi's own offsprings born with dog traits last Friday, three months after mating with a neighbour's dog, in the southern Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul state, November 15, 2006. A geneticist from the Passo Fundo University plans to take blood samples from the animals to verify the claim by Cassia and her husband Rogerio that the puppies are part of Mimi's litter of six, of which the three that were born with cat features died soon after birth, leaving the surviving three dog-like offsprings. 6. As cute as they are, that's not possible!
My understanding is you can't mate two species that have differing numbers of chromosomes. Won't work.

14. I'm looking at the photo
either it was photoshopped or this is a true anomaly. The "puppies" paws look similar to a cat's as well as their ears.

I don't know, but it would be interesting to have a followup.

16. I guess the geneticists will put an end to speculation
In this day and age of DNA, it's unlikely that people would try to fake something like this..unless they are very stupid..

It says she's a student.. we'll see if she's learning anything, if this turns out to be a scam..

But with the way the wrold is changing what with pollution and global warming, I wouldn't be surprised if this was some sort of genetic mutation.

On edit: If it is truly a mixed genetic breed, what the hell would it be called? A cog or a dat?

25. from babelfish
Curitiba - the history of the good-looking one that it would have generated younglings with a dog is false. The proprietor of the animals, the house owner gaucho Cssia Appeared of Souza, 18 years, of the city of Passo Fundo (RS), continues confirming the fact, but specialists had yesterday contradicted the possibility of the crossing between the two species. The notice caused a true rebulio enters the neighbors of Cssia, who still if asked yesterday if the younglings of good-looking the Mimi, as he is known in the region, would go "to miar or to bark". "the possibility is null for physical, biological and genetic reasons. Cpula between the two is impossible. Exactly that it had occurred, the numbers of the chromosomes of the two species would hinder the birth of a viable animal ", explain the geneticista and Adil biologist de Oliveira Pacheco, of the University of Passo Fundo, specialist that examined the younglings. It was called to examine the veracity of the fact for a local radio in the weekend. In accordance with the medical Elgio veterinarian Presotto Joo, of the Hospital Veterinarian Is Bernardo, of Curitiba, would not be possible nor the artificial insemination. "the case is improbable. He is as if a man crossed with a monkey ", exemplifica. The humbug of the birth of "cat-dogs" in the last Saturday if propagated for the fact of the female to have suckled the three younglings. Photos had been divulged widely by the press and the InterNet. "It had three good looking ones before, that they had died, and finished for adopting cachorrinhos that were in the neighborhood", the researcher says. "the people do not have scientific knowledge and if they leave to lead for what they want to believe", complete. To officialize the diagnosis and to calm the spirits of the family, neighbors and friends whom they insist on believing the mysterious birth, the researcher will make an official examination from samples of blood of the three younglings. "It is a simple method of identification of the number of chromosomes that will confirm that they are three cachorros", it says.

The cat-dog story was bullshit.
I love these translators. It's like reading what Yoda has to say about the matter. :D
