Poll question: Music opinion question.

I need to buy both Cake and Soul Coughing's back catalogues. I only have $ to buy one of them this week. Which one should I buy?

5. I like both, but Soul Coughing's "Ruby Vroom" is an essential disc.

It's one of those "perfect" albums, where every track is a gem.

I'd buy that one first, regardless of the outcome of this poll.

But I need the rest, and Mike Doughty's solo work too. I happened to catch him at the TLA over the summer - it was a great show!

7. I'm partial to Soul Coughing.

Ruby Vroom is wonderful. I like Cake too but Soul Coughing gets the edge on quirkiness, which is what I like. :hi:

They're a better band. And they only did three albums, not five. (If I were going to recommend only one as a must-have, it'd be "Ruby Vroom".)

11. Depends -- Soul Coughing is probably the more talented band, but...

Cake is both more accessible and more consistent.

If I was stuck on a desert island, I'd go with Cake. It bears up better under repeated listening.

But if I was going to listen to something a few times just to appreciate it, I'd go with Soul Coughing.

All in all, I voted for Cake, if you must have one or the other.

But, instead of that, may I suggest getting Fashion Nugget and Prolonging the Magic by Cake, and Ruby Vroom by Soul Coughing? You're getting the best of both that way.

You really should buy them instead. Particularly Kimono My House and Big Beat. And Propaganda.
