My boss is a big fat bitch
Here's the deal. She has been gone for 2 1/2 weeks because she's been "stressed" and needed to get away. Fine. No problem. I just learned yesterday that I had been invited by a production company to participate in a Discovery Channel program which would require me to be out Monday and Tuesday.

Now, mind you, the whole time she was out, I babysat her cute little bunny who turned out to have an ulcerated cornea. That required a couple of visits to the vet, and I've been giving him eyedrops 3 times a day. And I've had to keep his cage extra clean. Plus, I spoiled him with all kinds of fresh veggies that he could have (I looked it up) which he never gets aside from the stray carrot.

I just talked to her on the phone and did she say "That's great! What an opportunity! I'll be back then so go - have fun!" No, she said, "I guess you knew about this before I left for vacation?" Uh, no. Otherwise I wouldn't be running around like a chicken with my neck cut off trying to make arrangments for my pets, and making hotel arrangements at the last minute. She hemmend and hawed and said, "Well, I'll just be getting back, so I don't know." I said, "Yeah, you'll be back, and it's just 2 days." She finally relented but not without a huge fight.

And another thing - she takes off at Christmas for a month because of her son. She's married - she's not raising the little hellion alone. She won't let me take even 3 days to be with hubby while he's off because I don't have a kid. I've even offered to be on call - if anyone needed anything, I could drop everything and come right here. But, noooo. Oh, and I'm losing about 150 hrs of vacation time this year that I haven't taken.

She capriciously takes 3 month vacations, 6 week vacations, 1 month vacations, 3 week vacations and I have to beg and get chewed out over 2 lousy days when she should be happy for me.

She's a rotten conniving bag of monkey vomit.

Phew. Thanks for letting me vent. Yay! I'm going to be an expert on a Discovery Channel show! Yay!

1. Now you've learned you simply call in sick!
However, how can you stand working for such a selfish ass?

Any possibility of a job change?

8. Ny best hope is for her to retire
She talks about it all the time, gives me hope and then dashes it to bits. I've been working for that asshole for 19 years. I couldn't change jobs when I was younger because I had stage iv ovarian cancer so there was always an insurance issue if I changed jobs.

I cry and rant a lot.

12. Aw, you always make me feel better!
It's going to be about a haunted railroad track. I don't know yet, but it may be a subset of a larger show about haunted stuff. A school bus was supposedly hit by a train killing everyone on the bus and now when a car gets stranded, or you put your car on the tracks in neutral, it rolls mysteriously uphill. If you put talcum powder on your trunk, you see little tiny handprints. Ooooh. I've found the same exact story in 3 different cities so far. This is in San Antonio and it's a gravity hill - an optical illusion that looks as though things are rolling uphill (anyone old enough to remember Casa Magnetica?). It's enough of an incline to move the car a couple of feet. It seems that if you don't have drunk teenage friends with you, the handprints don't appear. I'm taking a 6 foot level with me.

20. Hehehe...
...it's down by Mission San Juan. All the streets down there have girls' names or just first names (I forget). Rumor is that the streets are named for the kids that died.

I tried googling the address, but couldn't find it exactly.

He still gives me kisses, even though I have to torture him wtih eyedrops. The evil one is retrieving him tonight though, so her hellion son will torture him, and he won't get any more num nums. He's supposed to go back to the vet on Saturday, but I doubt very much that she'll take him.

5. Okay, take a deep breath
Now, what is your company's policy on vacation? I think you ought to go to whoever is in charge of company benefits and explain the situation about losing so much of your hard-earned vacation time. No "boss" should have so much vacation and not allow subordinates any time off. Go to her boss if necessary. Keep it civil. You only want a vacation and you are entitled to it, you don't want unemployment.

I'd also back away from taking care of my boss's pets. You don't owe the woman anything, that's what personal friends are for and even if she's a bitch I'm sure she has some.

24. I kind of snuck one in
I went to our new office manager and just asked, naively and curiously, whether it was university policy for people with children to get preferential treatment for vacation. Why, no indeed. Shse's going to run a spreadsheet with the amount of vacation she's had vs. what I or my coworker (who got written up for having back problems) have taken.

You see, it's rationalized because it goes over to sick time and I've only 88 hours of sick time, you see. Damn you cancer!

We'll see if anything comes of the office manager's discovery. Hee hee har har HA HA!!!

Next you'll be telling me that you're a circulation clerk in the largest library on campus, and your boss' boss is a weenie who hides in his office because he "can't handle stress" and the Dean is a jerk-wad too....

Sounds like my girlfirend's situation. Her boss and her boss' "pet" seem to have LOTS of "comp time" to take, so they're always gone. And nobody gives a rat's ass about it. These 2 seem to be cooking their hours, and as long as nobody's getting knifed on top of "Mr. Stressed-out"'s desk and causing him "problems", he doesn't care....

You work at the same school I do?

38. She gets to write her own ticket
Her boss is far too busy to mess with mundane business like employee relations. She even writes her own evaluations! Guess what? She scores really, really high! She approves her own raises - when she was married to her ex (who didn't have a job) they were driving a porche and a jaguar. Hubby and I, who both work, have one 1997 Toyota Corolla.

7. hold it
you're owed vacation time? find out your company policy for taking vacation time. If they deny you the ability to take vacation time (do everything by email so you have a record) they have to compensate you for it if they take it away. If your salary includes, say, two week's vacation a year, and you were unable to take it based on the capriciousness of your boss, they HAVE to compensate you for that time. You worked for free for two weeks. remember that. go above her head if you have to.

no offense, ginbarn (and tell us what show, eh?) but do you want to come work for me? I'd love to have someone who will take this treatment lying down.

No one can victimize you without you ALLOWING it. Take a little control here.

Stop being so nice. Don't be quite so available. Look out for yourself first.

She can hire a temp while you're gone.

I wonder what she'd do if I said, "Gee, I'd love to help, but I've got to get my nails done."

What gets me is another girl, the assistant of my boss' boss (on paper - my boss writes her own evaluations), will take off all afternoon to get a pedicure. My boss just says it liek it's a normal thing - no big deal, but boy, if I tried to do that, look out brother!!!!

I'm thinking total psycho.

BFB's. people think they are primi-donna's - and should get everything for free. My boss at the evil radio corporation used to ask me 2/3 times per day to go get him this or that (coffee, water) I have a disability and should not do too much walking. Did that deter my Regionl Mgr. Executive VP from asking "Fuck NO". I wanted to scream "I hate you"

22. I hope that this doesn't sound jaded, but

keep a paper trail on her: if she is that bad.

Keep times, dates and details...on everything that she does wrong...that is definatley over the limit.

Keep a detailed paper trail on her, and if she screws you, or anybody, then you have a payback option.

You may think that it is over the top to do this, but if she is like you say she is then she won't be changing for the better.

Keep the paper trail at home. Do not email it to yourself at home but manually take it home.

You may think that I am joking, but remember this: as unfortunate as it is ...nice guys do sometimes finish last.

He just turned eight. They accidentally left the bunny out of his cage one night and the next morning there was a little pile of buuny poo pellets right in front of the boy's door. Awww.

She actually asked me today, on the phone, if I brought the bunny in with me (after she was already mad). Well, no, I told her I'd call her as soon as I got home. Why on earth would I stress the bunny that way when I already made arrangements to call her this evening? Gad.

I'll fill you guys in just as soon as I know something! I'm a stah, I'm a stah, I'm a bright and shining stah! Oh wait, wrong medium.

My future sister in law made a slasher movie where she got to stab a guy with a pitchfork and say, "Die, 'tard!" I have to be all intellectual and junk. :D
