I am swearing off of the impeachment threads in GD
I would have better luck trying to teach a rhino to tap dance while gargling peanut butter. Plus, it's infringing on my post-election buzz.

I know divisions are inevitable and we even have a few disappointments ahead, but being consumed by the impeachment argument is a drain on my energies I can best do without.

1. Yeah, you can't talk sense to a fanatic.
Some people just seem incapable of understanding that there are times when it's better to be pragmatic, and this is one of them.

2. I enjoyed your contributions to the debate
I had a sense of deja vu, as if it were the primaries again, or the legendary Dem/Green arguments. We've come too far for too long to piss it away by waving our "my sense of moral outrage is bigger than yours" dicks around.

4. That'll subside soon, probably.
Moral outrage, hate and anger are what have kept a lot of people going these past six years (hatred and disgust being motivations sometimes more effective than hope), and now that the Democrats have the upper hand, they want to take that bottle of vengeance they've been distilling and make Bush drain it to the dregs. Since the image of Bush paying for his actions has kept them going, they want it NOW (which is understandable, I suppose, but not going to happen).

7. I completey sympathize with them
I even told them as much - but that always gets lost in them filtering out the points of agreement in order to focus completely on the areas of disagreement. That's the weakness of ideologues.

But I don't begrudge them their lust for impeachment - just their insistence that there way is the only way, bar none, and the hell with alternatives.

14. Yeah, I sympathise, too...
I'd like to see Bush impeached and convicted, myself, but I'm realistic enough to see that it's just not a viable course of action. Better to focus on what CAN be done.

That's the only downside of idealism; it can cause people to become too dedicated to their ideals to focus on the practical (which tends to be the flaw in most political revolutions).

6. Really?
I don't remember you having much involvement other than saying we shouldn't impeach because it didn't work out well for the republicans. That didn't strike me as a great argument because:

1. The republicans ended up with all three branches a couple years later.

and

2. Clinton didn't do anything wrong in the first place.

But OK.

9. You missed many more points and posts than that
But that is what I expected from one of the many parties which cannot comprehend nuanced arguments not enamored of self-righteous moral clarity and ideological certitude.
