I failed a psych eval
It was for a prospective employer. But the employer still wants to work with me...on a temp-to-hire basis. Don't ask me! Guess my favorite color was the wrong one.

1. It was probably an excuse
to offer you the temp-to-hire position. Less risk. Might be worth taking him up on it if you want the job, though, and you can make your own real impression, but I'd say get it in advance in writing how long you'd work temp before being hired 'for real.' (And at that point you'd be willing to walk if the 'for real' part didn't happen, I guess!)

I hadn't had to take one of those tests for a job interview yet but have been hearing about them.

4. I heard that it's common practice.
They tell you you failed the psych evaluation so that when they offer you a temp position, you actually feel grateful, rather than disapointed.

6. Actually no.
I remember seing a spot on tv and talking to a few people about it who seemed to know the practice. I sort of believe it because it makes sense, but I might be wrong about all of it.

8. From what I've heard...
I've got several friends that work at one of the 2 nuclear power plants here in Louisiana, and a psych evaluation is standard for any new hire. As I understand, almost everyone "fails" it- It's just some stupid test that fulfills a regulatory requirement.

10. As I understand...
They don't ever give an actual reason... They got notices that they didn't pass the psych exam, so they had to go see the plant's approved psychologist. Once there, they had a short little q and a session, then the psych basically said something to the effect of "well, there's nothing wrong with you- these tests really don't mean anything, anyway."
