1. That's not a DU popup
You must have some kind of Adware that got downloaded to your machine

3. It's from UUNet Technologies...

IP 65.202.105.13

If you right click on the ad and check Properties, you can find the source.

The properties for this say: http: //65.202.105.13 /ama/Aug_Bush1_400.gif

You picked it up surfing somewhere.

On edit: *lol* By putting the URL in, it showed the ad again! I added spaces in the URL to correct that.

4. Thanks Guys !!! I Haven't Scrubbed With AdAware For A While !!!
Didn't know that that's what those little buggers do when ya pick 'em up.

But I DID think that at one point DU was using popups to generate revenue. I get an accompanying popup every day when I first go to DU. It just doesn't have anything to do with promoting Shrub, at least til this time.

Will scrub before bed.

Thanks again, just freaked me out!

:hi:

8. Adaware won't block them I believe
But it will find and remove malware that causes some popups. I hd to scan last night bcause it was just crazy, I had t close ovr 0 windows in a row because they kept popping up and I almost just shut the laptop down.

I love Adaware.

10. What is the OS ?
And do you have broadband ? If you bought WinXP or Win2K, use broadband, and don't have a firewall you may get lots of popups coming via the Microsoft Messenger service (which has nothing to do with MS's instant message client, MSN Messenger).

Go into Control Panel, Administrative tools, Services, and find the "messenger" service, and double-click it - it will say that it "Sends and receives messages transmitted by administrators or by the Alerter service." change the start-up type for this service to "manual" and then stop the service.

Regardless, you should get a firewall as well. Also, the Google toolbar, available for free here, does a great job of blocking popups.

11. Use Mozilla as your browser and you won't get pop ups.
Edited on Sat Dec-27-03 11:47 AM by Mountainman
Get free here,

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/

I have been using it ever since some DUer recommended it last week and it is faster and better than anything I had used before and I get no pop ups and no spam so far.

12. Get the advanced Google toolbar. It blocks all pop-ups (except theirs
probably!)

13. I run Ad-Aware and I STILL get pop-ups.
And yes, I get popups when I come to DU. The Admins need to clue their pop-up partner in on what kind of site this is....
I run ZoneAlarm in "Full-Stealth" mode, too.

If this was something I "picked up" from another site, then there must be a few DU'er's who have the same surfing habits I do, since we all have the same pop-up.
